very cool when the most generous take you can have about the "most powerful man in the world" is no hes not being racist hes just too fucking senile to remember how to use words properly

Talking about the negro league by name is normal, but the part where he says "the great negro" is probably not something to be said by the world's whitest man

Biden has a golden opportunity to appease the increasing anti-woke crowd and the leftists in one fell swoop by nominating Nick Mullen to be his VP

Senile segregationist accidentally says what he was thinking out loud.

    Libs:

    :shocked-pikachu:

Biden still talks fondly about Strom Thurmond. He’s just obsessed with whatever decorum was required for him to get elected and now that he has been is bound to slip up.

Didn’t he tell the president of the NAACP to shut up before the inauguration?

Yeah come on, this is a stretch. He's trying to say Negro League pitcher but his dumb mush brain can't get the words out in the right order.

There's a reason only MAGAworld is reporting this.

he should probably just avoid saying that word. it's hard to write a speech without a Satchel Paige reference, but i think he could prbably manage

Either he's senile or racist (let's be real it's both), mainstream media isn't reporting that either way. He would have to drop a hard r during a debate to get any coverage

Seems pretty innocent tbh, he says great pitcher in the Negro Leagues who went on to be a great pitcher in the MLB which is correct. Trivia: Satchel Paige was the oldest player to ever debut in MLB, at age 42 (because segregation forced him to play in the Negro Leagues for 20 years of his career).

That's the point that Biden's trying to make, he sees a commonality between him and Mr. Paige as he finally got to be President at 78 and keeps trying to sell people on the idea that he can actually do something meaningful. This is the same talking point he used with the Pope recently.

As ungraceful as it is to fail to compose a sentence on the spot by thinking about Paige and the Negro League and fucking up which word Negro was modifying before clumsily correcting himself, this is less racist, than say, when he praised Obama as the first African American in politics that was "clean" and "articulate".

I love Satchel Paige as much as the next guy but this seems like an unforced error on Biden's part.

Right now the RW nutsosphere is railing against Biden for this, and it is bringing out ugly false equivalences.

If he had referred to the Negro Leagues exclusively and said great african american instead of calling someone a "great negro" that might've been a better call.

Not something you hear or want to hear everyday and it just speaks volumes about how racist America was and still is that we accepted that as normal. Like sure, that was the name, and it's what what they called it as as the then socially "acceptable" term, but even then it was still fucked up.

Anyways I'm glad we elect ancient fossils to be our leaders, I'm sure that progress is just around the corner with them making all those tough choices they do

I'd allow this if Biden had access to a presidential time machine; however, in the good ol' present, calling a black man a negro just comes off as out-of-touch, this old dude has dementia, and seeing it live on TV is shockingly sad.

Hot takes Biden reminds me of my own racist grandpa before Poppy was sent away upstate to live the rest of his days cheating at board games for money. Is it so wrong to want Biden to have the chance at that sort of happiness?

ok i actually watched the video and jesus. he def knew he was gonna say negro league, but i saying “I’ve adopted the attitude of the great negro at the time" then wincing is awful LOL. def seems like he did not mean to say it when talking about a player (which was the point of my comment)
