It’s actually a mediation on the flawed nature of adaption, it’s perceived low quality is actually it’s greatest strength as it’s asking “what is a terrible live action version of an anime anyway?” It’s trying to tell us that inherently adaption is a barren wasteland for creatives in which all the stories are already told, all decisions already made, thus rendering them a mere perfunctory gesture in which capitalists try and re-mortgage their existing properties, as it were, cash in again on the same ideas without having to rely on anyone to have a new or novel approach to similar material that might require further investment on their part. The genius of the adaption is that from the moment it starts you’re asking “why?” And by the time Edward shows up you are no longer around to see it having hung yourself from the light fitting by jumping down from the coffee table, snapping your neck in the process, the ghostly dance of shadows cascading across the otherwise empty room and onto your slowly oscillating corpse. By the time Netflix thinks to ask if you’re still there, you are long gone.

    Five stars.

I mean right the way capitalism has steered content generation, the title is right for the wrong reason.

With streaming and constant access, they're more aiming for background noise you can tolerate while you scroll on your phone. That and getting new subscribers is what Netflix has gotten good at. Release one season to draw a crowd and a second season for the ones who want to catch the hype train. Third seasons become less common when they invite fewer new subscribers.

    Here's an explanation

before you make fun of the lisa solo please keep in mind that blackpink music isn't supposed to be good it's absurdist performance art please leave her alone the songs aren't sincerely bad they're just pretending to be bad and its not lisa's fault you don't understand that :(

i've said this so many times. the intention behind blackpink is not to make good songs it is to critique and subvert what it means for music to be "good". it's not "bad", it's post-good...

Watching only 1.5 episodes, in the saddest way possible, it wants to be good. Like how a kid wants to be a cheerleader, but their parent forces them to join the football team. And on top of that american scifi is not allowed to be good.

Okay I'm 7 episodes in and, hate me if you must, I don't mind it? The first few episodes it feels like it's trying too hard to be the anime, but as it moves along it becomes its own campy experience that's genuinely entertaining in its own right. There's a couple of genuinely touching moments and decent fight scenes where you can appreciate the athleticism. Its comedy is a bit formulaic but not entirely unfunny. If you can get your inner critic to shut up for all of 5 minutes and make it a point to enjoy the series, you'll find it's a lot easier than you'd initially think.
