I’m not getting into any details at all about this but shits fucking bad. I wouldn’t doubt some more users might get harassed.

Thanks for deciding to federate and putting us in the fucking spotlight!

Deadass what I was thinking. I literally had to block an entire comm bc this user, and having actually had feds walk up in my living room before, it's genuinely not a funny fuckin subject to be cracking jokes about.

They post in the fake news community a lot. Hence the fake news. This is serious stuff that affects all leftists and I'm sure it will become only more common in the near future

They make similar posts in other comms as well, and fakenews was created as a containment comm for Melina because they posted fakenews-esque stories for a long time.

I agree. This is truly a concerning 'boy who cried wolf' moment. It's one thing to make dumbass jokes, it's another to be known for regularly posting fake and alarming stories.

Best of luck to everyone here.

Also, thinking about it more. Why not go into detail if it happened?

It's not like Melina can maintain anonymity from the feds by not going into details. They'd already be identified because the feds went to their home, right? The username has been connected to the person already. What would be gained by not giving some details and just putting out some alarmist post like this? If it may cause trouble to go into details then might as well not post anything to avoid upsetting feds by talking about it at all.

Nah, I think it's fake. I'm sorry to anyone I convince and suffers if I turn out to be wrong but I'm calling bullshit.

The uhhh. The chapotraphouse comm is also pretty much entirely dedicated to shitposting and always has been.

There's definitely grounds for being confused about this post.

We're here today to talk about some cringe posts you've put up on the internet, we want you to know that the president is disappointed in you.

You can't just post about the feds talking to you. You have to be in character as a canary or something, it's complicated

The canary died right after we federated

Federating was most likely an inside fed op

If you live in the United States, remember to be very careful about what you say online! There's over two centuries of precedent -- free speech does NOT extend to anything the government decides is "treasonous" or "seditious". A lot of those McCarthy era policies are still on the books; "un-American activity" is sought out and logged.

That being said, even federal agents need a warrant -- remind them of your right to a lawer and do your best to keep it civil. Don't give them the excuse they're looking for!

I’m not going to advise people one way or the other, but choosing not to censor yourself despite the risk is a valid choice, and one I choose for the present. For now the risk is almost nil, though in a year they might start coming for people based on what they said online years ago.
