i used to train mma and the basic lesson about kicking was don't do it because unless you're already in a dominant position (at which point it's probably not an optimal move) you're just going to weaken yourself by throwing yourself off balance. (obviously if you have years of training under your belt it's different but 99.9% of people don't)
It looks cool until you've just landed on the ground and their buddies run to you to start stomping your face in, quickly joined by the unaware target who at best has just had the equivalent of a mean shove.

What about drop kicking an unaware target?

I'm guessing low velocity, high mass projectiles are the way to go.
