The reason is that with the sheer volume of new cases that we are having and that we expect to continue with Omicron, one of the things we want to be careful of is that we don't have so many people out [...]

If you are asymptotic and you are infected, we want to get people back to the jobs, especially those with essential jobs

I like how they've been explaining it on the Death Panel podcast... for the last 2 years, whenever the US has had to choose between saving lives or making sure the capitalists' profits don't suffer, they choose profits. Every. Single. Time.

Getting the whole workplace sick just to squeeze a few days of labor out of one "asymptomatic" person? Wow.

Omicron is gonna destroy this country

Can I get a video clip of him saying that? I want to save it on my phone for 2025 or so when I'm able to be in the room with my lib relatives to scream at them and I'd like a receipt.

I love how they killed off, disabled (long covid), or basically fired/early retired (forcing people into work that’s unhealthy and they quit) so many workers with the previous set of bad policies that now that the US is 4+ million workers short there’s no other politically viable option than to double down and expire/retire/fire even more.

The real scandal is they did this shit with nurses too, and earlier. Over in /r/nursing they’re pissed.

They say quarantine for 5 days if covid+ and symptomatic, and COME IN TO WORK IF THEY ARE COVID+, ASYMPTOMATIC AND VACCINATED. You read correct, the CDC is recommending fucking nurses go to work with COVID

And on top of this the American Medical Heart Association is recommending healthcare providers perform cpr on COVID+ patients immediately without donning PPE 🤡

Like holy shit. Obviously this is to deal with the nurse shortage but can’t they just you know, fucking pay more? Clearly at the behest of :porky-happy:

so literally just make the time they do quarantine completely useless while still having your workers out, thanks capitalism definitely the most efficient solution. definitely wouldnt lead to vastly more people needing to quarantine because they just pass it on to the next dozen people once their five days are up

Someone at my family Christmas gathering tested positive despite the vaccine and so I immediately packed up to go home and quarantine. My mom came running out to tell me about the latest CDC guidance in an attempt to keep me at the house and it made me so irrationally mad. I apologized for snapping at her, but goddamn. How do people not understand that the CDC is a political organization like any other?

like… the CDC is also still pushing cloth masks over N95s despite knowing N95s are way more effective

Guess that means there's another shortage

They're finally going mask off and outright saying profits first. It was always the subtext, but now it's the main talking point. I'm sure plenty of people will defend it too

Don't worry South Africa is somehow worse, no one has to quarantine after a positive test anymore. You can just do whatever

They basically gave up with Omnicom around Christmas, too contagious and no political will to contain it. South Africans want their Dezember and nothing will stop that lol.

So far deaths aren't to bad, probably because 0.5% of the whole countries population has died of COVID 19 when taking excess deaths into account. (Equivalent would be 1.65 million deaths in the USA, where the death count is around 1 million when taking excess deaths into account). So everyone that was vulnerable to COVID 19 is, uhh, already dead..

Have we reached some kind of threshold of vaccination rates where capital believes the death rates are sustainable enough for profits?

I think this assumes more competence of the capitalist owners than they actually possess. They're not going in to the office, and they can just have middle management hire more bodies if needed. What more calculus would they need to do, from their perspective?

I don't know, I could see business leaders teaming up with the Biden administration to fund these sort of think-tanks. Not a lot of thought went into the comment beyond that, but you could be right!

    All our times have come
    Here but now they're gone
    Seasons don't fear the reaper
Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain
We can be like they are

Come on, baby (don't fear the reaper)
Baby, take my hand (don't fear the reaper)
We'll be able to fly (don't fear the reaper)
    Baby, I'm your man

When I got home from work yesterday I was wondering when they were going to do this. Since everyone is treating the pandemic as over, and omicron as just a cold, they're not going to want government mandated time off for workers. Come to work if you're sick, spread it even more, get everyone sick.

Inb4 they remove quarantine times entirely while there's a 9/11 of deaths per day going on.
