Like, there were no reports about the suspect having a gun, the pig says "let me take point with the rifle", as if a normal handgun somehow wouldn't be enough. Then he just starts shooting IMMEDIATELLY when he sees the guy, doesn't confirm that it is indeed the suspect. The pig shoots him multiple times, then the pigs starts screaming at the dying man to "turn around". The guy they shot could be acting in self-defense, we don't know. The pig just wanted to shoot someone, he couldn't shoot the person already on the ground and bleeding, so he shot the first person he saw standing.

The rifle is definitely a WTF choice (among others). I'm not really an expert in that stuff, but a rifle generally gives you an advantage outdoors where the longer barrel increases your range and accuracy. A handgun will do plenty to stop someone indoors and allows you to be more mobile. You also won't shoot through like 6 walls, and if you end up with some penetration it should make a difference in lethality. This is important to consider when there are civilians around or this exact thing is bound to happen. I can get having a guy with the rifle along with you, but he hangs out in back and takes over if you end up confronting the suspect outside.

Also yeah there's gotta be a manslaughter charge here. No way the cop felt threatened, so all they can go with is "I didn't want him to get away and hurt someone else" which I don't really buy exactly, but will probably be enough to get them off, once again far from an expert here.

(Not so) fun reminder: if the suspect had lived, they would have charged him with felony murder for the death of the girl.

I wonder how long until they will charge the relatives of the guy and give them a bill for the bullets and time used.

Real life isn't a video game. Handguns are very difficult to shoot accurately, and you are more likely to hit some random person by accident with them. They are also a lot less immediately lethal, and so you need to shoot a lot more to be sure you brought down the target.

That's why you use a shotgun indoors for police work if you aren't a psychopath.
