We're still awaiting the calibration and first light, but everything seems to be working so far. This project is a triumph of collective action, motivated by the search for knowledge and unrestrained by the profit motive.

I can't wait for them to point this at potentially habitable exoplanets to determine the contents of their atmospheres. IMO its the coolest part of Webb's capabilities and it would be super dope to find biosignatures on some planets.
Unironically, the JWST is probably the best (and one of the few good) thing the US has done in the last 25 years.

Quite a few months still. There's still a lot of stuff for the team and the telescope to do before it starts looking around. The public will probably get pictures in late Spring or early Summer, I think.
