Today Danish authorities announced that Lars Findsen, head of the nation's military intelligence agency FE is one of four members of the military intelligence community that was secretly arrested in early December on charges of leaking classified information.

Authorities remain highly secretive about the charges and it is not known to the public what information had allegedly been leaked or who received the information. The FE agency is tasked with espionage against foreign powers deemed hostile to Denmark and with intelligence gathering in warzones where Danish troops are deployed.

The arrest of the nation's spymaster is highly embarrassing to the regime who fears the leaks will damage foreign partners' trust in the nation's spot services.

Findsen denies all allegations as absurd. He was suspended from his post in 2020 following revelations that he had authorized his agency to do illegal espionage against Danish citizens.

He apparently was the point man when the NSA asked Denmark to spy on Angela Merkel. So it's fairly well known that it was the Americans who were behind this. Also fun fact, apparently a few journalists have been threatened with the treason-section of our penal code. Which also includes doing anything that endangers Denmark's international alliances, including NATO.

Honestly reading it made my fucking jaw drop. In general reading the danish laws have made me somewhat surprised, since they are a hell of a lot more reactionary than what I had guessed most of our population to actually be like. Now it might be a testamente to the rest of our legal structure that these specific sections aren't more widely known, since they are VERY rarely used.

Not only that, but if you live in a rental, you can and will be evicted if a member of your family (anyone registered on the same address as you) commits a crime. Which applies to both private rentals as well as public housing.

I love living in a based social democracy where our intelligence services for sure didn't share access to our undersea cables so the US can listen in on our citizens and allies and politicians. It's great being a totally independent free state where our Prime Minister definitely didn't help Bush and co. in lying about WMD's, then getting rewarded with getting to be Chief of NATO right after. Super cool and good that our collaborationist government under the Nazis delivered names of hundreds of Danish communists to the SS.

She's not the kind of person you put in charge of stuff you care about. Her most memorable statement was from back when she was the succdem party's IT spokesman and she said that IT professionals should stop wearing white tennis socks and start dating girls.

She's done relative good as minister of defense but I seriously doubt it is because of any baseness, I rather suspect that she is too incompetent to pick up on all the "wink wink, nudge nudge" signals you need to understand to make an imperialist branch office work properly.

Isn't she hated by literally the entire department of defense? For a wide variety of reasons, most of which seem to be pure incompetence / media-fuckups.

She is generally disliked, especially by the people who have the misfortune of working with her.

Her main qualification is being a loyal party soldier who does whatever the party leadership tells her, a quality that seems to be the guiding principle for the current prime minister's appointments.

Somewhat ironic that a woman famous for being a loyal soldier has no way to actually engender loyalty among soldiers.

I think what really pissed them off was when she did a neoliberalism and pruned some of the top military bureaucracy.

I vaguely remember she said something about women in leadership of the military, and also something about women's rights when the Afghanistan withdrawal happened, but im pretty sure Denmark pulled all our troops out back in like 2014.

Danish troops were in Afghanistan until the very end although I guess the number of troops were decreased. The "women's rights" bit was a widely used justification for the war in Denmark so I'm not surprised that she repeated it.

that might be it. I didn't really pay attention to politics when the war started, on account of me being 6 years old, so I'm just guessing when I try to speak for the general mood of the country, as well as the justifications they gave back then. All I've been reading about since has been the war in Iraq, especially given Anders Foghs later contributions to both NATO and his own "consulting" firm, where I assume he takes money from gulf monarchies to lobby for the war in Yemen.

I know nothing about Denmark’s politics

We are about to get rid of the few covid restrictions we have, despite infections and hospitalizations going up, and go for the whole Omikron is mild thing. The other day one of the major media run a huge article about Bill Clintons thoughts about the queen, cause its her 50 years on the throne. The antiimmigrant, antiEU, fash party run for local elections with platform for green energy and climate change mitigation. So, figure it out.

I legit can't tell which of our Anti-immigrant fash parties you are talking about who run on platforms for green energy and climate mitigation. Because the New Right is severely anti-doing anything to help the climate, the Peoples Party is so fractured among its voters that the only thing they legit can run on is "too many brown people, so let's just fight amongst ourselves on how to "solve" that issue". Also pretty much every voter for the Peoples Party is either a young fascist, or retired and mostly angry about neoliberalism.

During the last local elections there were DF posters that includes green energy and shit. I don't really remember the details, besides it mentioning green energy and climate as point and me thinking "huh, so they're doing an ecofascism now" ...

That might be why I never heard of it. Because DF has had absolutely zero control over their local branches for a while now. They were also bleeding membes and voters to NB during the election, with new stories emerging every few days about another local chapter that had no members left, because they couldn't agree on anything other than "racism good".
