Objectively Odd Taxi was the best overall anime of the year and easily one of the best ever( easily top 20). Great story kept me hooked all the way, a great ending, great characters, features a decent critical eye of modern life and yet you can still eventually come around and get invested into the "good ending" all of that including the gimmick.

It is not my absolutely favorite though I think Vivy was my favorite despite not being as good as Odd Taxi's story execution(still very top tier though) simply because some of the character art and animation are some of the best I've ever seen. Visualy Vivy is easily one of the greatest ever imo.

I watched very little current or old anime this year. However, I really like Otherside Picnic. Also, Talentless Nana was silly fun.

You just made me realize that the only anime I watched all last year was Star Wars: Visions, which was okay not great.

I don't really watch seasonal shows anymore but I'm keeping up with Ousama Ranking and look forward to it every Friday. Halfway through watching Sonny Boy right now too and that one is growing on me a lot.

    Winter 2021

Re:Zero Season 2 Part 2 - actually pretty good, and likely the best season of the show. 8/10

Yuru Camp Season 2 - Good, cozy, but you need to be in the right mindset/mood to watch it. 7/10

Horimiya - Really, really good story and characters. Horrible Pacing. Fun Opening song with an 80s drum machine. 7/10

Ex-Arm - Lmao. It was a hilarious group watch though. 1/10

Wonder Egg Priority - Had a really good start and mysterious plot that was looking like it could be good on social issues. Unfortunately, it went downhill fast towards the end, likely due to crunch time kicking the proletarians' ass :deeper-sadness:. 7/10 for the show. 3/10 for the ending special episode.

    Spring 2021

Odd Taxi - I dropped it because I got hooked by a bunch of old shows and forgot about this for a while. The first 4 episodes were really good though. Unranked.

Super Cub - Dull. De Facto advertisement for Honda. 6/10. Shortwave radio receiver shown on screen 10/10.

Gokushufudou - Low-effort adaptation. Dull. 5/10 For shows like the Yakuza video games try Emblem Take 2 (1993) or Hinamatsuri (for the wholesome Kiryu vibes; 2019)

Zombieland Saga Revenge - Very good character-driven idol anime with a non-"haha trans" portrayal of a transgender character. Also that ending. 9/10

Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-San - Much like in the manga, bad beginning. Gets wholesome later. 8/10

CESTVS, The Roman Fighter - Ugly. Despite that, just uninteresting. 3/10

Kaguya-Sama Love is War OVA - Get this horny shit out of here. The second part was good though. 3/10

Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway's Flash - A good watch for Gundam UC fans. I'm awaiting the next part of the adaptation eagerly. 7/10

    Summer 2021

Kageki Shoujo!! - Decent, but I got bored of it by E5. 6/10 for the first five episodes

    Fall 2021

Heike Monogatari - E1 was good. Then I felt like I knew too little of japanese literature to enjoy it. Dropped

Star Wars Visions - A collection of Star Wars short stories. I liked the I.G. Productions one (whose director started his career by helping work on Patlabor), but the rest were mediocre to bad. 6/10

Blue Period - The Manga is better. Dropped after 4 Episodes.

Tesla Note - Ugly, had so-bad it's good potential but was mostly just dull. I will be rewatching it soon.

Muteking the Dancing Hero - Fantastic show by a boomer director. Unfortunately screwed up a bit by the last few episodes but was still very enjoyable imo. 7/10

Kyoukai Senki - 2D mecha animation fuck yeah. Dull story and characters oh no. Dropped

Komi-San Can't Communicate - A fun bizzarre and kinda wholesome comedy (not really a romcom) 7/10

Lupin III Part 6 - Good, but when watching Part 2 (1977) alongside it, it loses in every single aspect. 7/10

    Pedophile Isekai as #1, hmmmm.

2021 was the first year I watched more than one or two anime, so it was mostly older stuff. That said:

    1. Steins;gate
    2. Madoka
    3. Mob Psycho 100
    4. Link Click
    5. Kaguya
    6. So I'm a Spider, So What?
    7. Nichijou
    8. Odd Taxi
    9. Jujutsu Kaisen
    10. Konosuba

In terms of stuff that actually came out last year...

    1. Link Click - An interesting concept done well. Only things keeping it from a 10/10 are not being a complete story and some weird animation quirks, like disorienting screen warps on cuts. 9/10
    2. So I'm a Spider, So What? - Trash animation that steadily gets worse, but it was a wild ride that kept me always wanting more. Also a rarity to have a non-sexualized female lead, only to blow it by introducing shit like Ariel. 8/10, would be 9/10 if not for horniness and technical failures.
    3. Odd Taxi - A fun little crime mystery that stands out for its Tarantino-esque dialogue. Personally I thought it was just okay. 7/10
    4. Zombieland Saga: Revenge - The plot is fucking nonsense, and the music is too repetitive and generic to be enjoyable, but the individual stories are fun. Much, much better than the first season. Weirdest cliffhanger ending I've ever seen. 7/10
    5. Evangelion 3.0+1.0 - As a huge Eva fan this was a letdown. The part when they're hanging out in the village is good, and I appreciate Anno yelling at his fans to touch grass. Wish Asuka would wear clothes. 6/10
    6. Slime Isekai Season 2 - It's bold to make a season of your anime into a prank on the audience, so they get points for audacity. 6/10
    7. Vivy - Didn't care for it. Beautifully animated, sure, but not much else going on. Didn't feel like much was done with the concept. 6/10
    8. Re:Zero Season 2 Cour 2 - Huge letdown after S1 which wasn't even that great. Some good moments but the pacing killed me. The first anime I've ever watched as it aired, and the last. 5/10
    9. Attack on Titan S4 Part 1 - I watched the whole series because, hey, it's really highly rated. I do not get the appeal, and the weird politics are a huge red flag given the author's a Japanese nationalist. 5/10
    10. Kaguya OVA - On the list purely because I only watched 10 things that came out last year apparently. :volcel-judge: 3/10

    1. Evangelion + EoE : infinity/10 because it helped me understand cushvlogs and some of us watched it together on the cytube, fine art

    2. Cowboy Bebop : infinity -1 / 10 fucking amazing slice of life from another era, slick action scenes, amazing atmosphere and themes

    3. JJBA Stone Ocean : infinity - 2 / 10 excellent job at adapting it from the manga, jojo based

    4. International Wrestling Festival 2021 : 11/10 RIP its their last one...

    5. Star Wars Visions : 8/10 hard hitting animu fight scenes appease my star wars manchild instincts, hella dopamine, rest is meh

I dont watch that much anime lol

999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999) Evangelion 3.0+1.0 : -infinity / 10 totally unnecessary cynical soycuck neolib ending to an otherwise pristine work of art, its like they got the entire Forbes "top 100 earners in a room" and paid em $1bil to write an evanglion sequel, so bad that its equal parts enraging and hilarious
