i think weed should be legal but im also highly dubious it does anything for cancer. Just say you want to smoke weed for fun

I have a headache and one of my eyes hurts. I'm not a doctor but I've seen one on the teevee and I think it's glioblastoma. Weed can't hurt.

it doesn't hurt but it also does nothing for it. all the science on it is very dubious largely anecdotal cases of people who were also receiving other treatments and the more credible claims only say it can treat the nausea caused by chemotherapy.

I'm sorry to hear that I've had cancer myself but the notion it can be treated with canabis is dangerous misinformation

I thought the whole marijuana for cancer thing was explicitly to treat nausea and pain, not to actually cure the cancer.

Whether cannabis is helpful for treatment of any disease is irrelevant to whether it should be legal

I'm not that kind of doctor and I'm extremely not suggesting that people toke up instead of pursuing chemo- or radiotherapy, but there is some evidence that the endocannabinoid system has an effect on a number of diseases including cancer , so who knows, a decade or so of testing from now, we might see a handful of cannabinoids being used in clinical cancer treatments or treatments for other diseases.

Again, to anyone considering skipping their chemo appointment and getting spliffy, don't skip the appointment. This is just an interesting curiosity speculating about the future, not present medical advice.

My dad was fairly anti weed until he got cancer. It helped him immensely with pain. By the end he had to take fentnal patches but the topical lotions still seemed to help.

Maybe work with Cuba in the open about it since they have down ground breaking work regarding curing (some) and treating cancer?

But that would mean ending the embargo..

    THE WEST WING "100,000 AIRPLANES"

BARTLET: A President stood up. He said we will land a man on the moon before the end of the decade. You know what we knew when he said that? Nothing. We didn't know anything. We didn't know about the lunar surface. We didn't know how to land one of these things. All we'd ever done is crash it into the ocean. And God knows we could figure out how to land soft. We didn't know how to blast off again, but a President said we're gonna do it, and we did it. So I ask you, why shouldn't I stand up and say we are going to cure cancer in ten years?

Silence in the room. No one responds.

    BARTLET [CONT.] I'm really asking.

JOSH: Well, how close are we to really being able to do this?

    BARTLET: Nobody knows.

    Much later...

Sam walks to his desk and fiddles with his laptop. He shows Lisa his draft on curing cancer.

LISA: Read it to me. [sits]

SAM [reads] "Over the past half-century, we've split the atom, we've spliced the gene, and we've roamed Tranquility Base. We've reached for the stars, and never have we been closer to having them in our grasp. New science, new technology is making the difference between life and death, and so we need a national commitment equal to this unparalleled moment of possibility. And so, I announce to you tonight, that I will bring the full resources of the federal government and the full reach of my office to this fundamental goal: we will cure cancer by the end of this decade."

LISA [pause] That was nice. [beat] I'll pass the notes along.

Sam nods and watches Lisa leave his office. As he leans back on his chair, we see his computer screen and the words to his draft. With a touch, he highlights all the words, before he deletes them. For a moment, Sam just sits still, staring at the blank page.

    DISSOLVE TO: END TITLES.
    FADE TO BLACK.
    THE END

Why would it be on their agenda? Biden can just do it if he's got a pen. Manchin is no excuse. Nor is Sinema. Nor is the filibuster. Nor is even the fucking parliamentarian. And it doesn't even need to be a fancy signing pen. A plain old 57 cent Bic would do.

Also - even though it's a totally painless way for the dems to get a win - Biden doesn't want to be known as the American President who decriminalized the wacky tobaccy. Because it will lead the children and the young folk away from god and the democratic party towards the devil and communism.

I think giving the commerce secretary a headsup regarding decriminalization or descheduling since they would need to ask businesses on the effects it would have on their marketshare, competition, taxes etc.

I've always thought that the chance Biden would decriminalize it was zero. Not for example a 1 in 1,000 chance but dead zero. But you make a very good point that I didn't even consider.

I'll be paying more attention to the commerce secretary. Who knows what the future holds? Biden's polling numbers with young people are terrible and I assume the White House is ignoring that because they rarely vote in midterms anyway. But if his approval rating gets to some "break the glass" number among the young folk maybe there will be a chance for decriminalization. And it will be even greater than 1 in 1,000.

I see you, I hear you. And that's why I'm proud to announce the authorization of 100 billion dollars to go directly to police for drug law enforcement efforts, along with another 200 billion so police can just do whatever.
