The new Colbert-produced Comedy Central animated series about a chaotic small town filled with COVID skeptics aims to be the new “South Park” but comes off as lame and uninspired.
no i think there were specific (albeit hack) artistic decisions made that got us here. like it looks like someone wanted to mash together South Park and Archer.
Which is a shame cus Bob's Burgers is surprisingly class conscious. The only explicit villain of the series is their landlord. There's an episode where Bob leads all the other tenants into a renter's strike.
I remember right wingers being mad at like "bean mouth" or whatever but most of those shows look alright, the fucking tsunami of "adult animated comedy shows" is infinitely worse than anything else, yet I still see people go like "dude no this one is actually so funny" and it just looks like awful dull dogshit, just make a fucking comedy podcast if your visual element is a complete afterthought and as cheap as possible compared to the writing. Then also most of them have writing almost worse than the animation anyways.
I was watching one of those "X react" videos and this time it was for animation, and the guys doing it invited some old school animation guy onto the show and he was gushing about the legends he worked under, all the tricks used to bring life to animation and give unique looks and traits to characters. Then he starts talking about the new show hes working on and its an adult animated comedy and he just sounds so dead, just pure contractually obliged praise and advertising.
Why are cartoons getting uglier?

I think they might just be AI generating the animation using the snapchat shit. It sure looks like it.

Yeah this must be costing them like nothing to make except paying the voice talent.

i'm not an art person but isn't stuff like this usually considered to be a matter of individual taste
