It’s true. If Light truly wanted to make the world better, he’d just start going down the list of ceos of Forbes 500.

Obviously you use an offline copy of wikipedia and browse it on a computer disconnected from the internet so the NSA/FBI/CIA/DOE/国安部 doesn't notice that every day you googled imaged and/or namechecked those 30 people that day. You'd really be better off just writing down CEO names as a response to news items, with a 3-30 day delay.

I've had this idea for a sci-fi fiction where there's a distributed network of artificial intelligence controlled self-replicating drones that set fire to houses owned by billionaires. The drones wouldn't be entirely self-replicating, but they could automatically make online purchases of the parts needed to build a copy of itself, and then retrieve and open the packages, and assemble them. I think it could be possible with commercially available programmable robot arms, quadcopter drones, solar panels, and like a raspberry pi.

That would probably be really popular so long as you included very detailed and accurate descriptions for how the drones assembled and weaponized themselves. People really dig that kind of attention to detail.

Bonus points if you make it take a von Neumann twist where the bots start kills anyone with more property than Diogenes had, leading to a complete collapse of the world and the recreation of a primitive society ruled by their robotic overlords for a period long enough to brain drain humanity while the bots loose the ability to sustain their population due to the destruction of the means of production. Or some shit like that

If Light Yagami did that, they would've found him and killed him in less than a day.

I don’t really think so lol. He got found out cuz he killed a local criminal so L narrowed it down. But if the first person you off is Gates or Bezos or someone there’s no fucking way they find you lol. Oh, plus he didn’t kill during school hours and other shit.

American Light could've just had all the guys he wanted dead start a prison riot and then get domed, and it would just seem like a regular thing. As for those who aren't in prison, he could've had all of them go to one place, then have another guy do a mass shooting and kill himself, and the intelligence community would be none the wiser.

Or race to change their names so you couldn’t write them down. Billionaires will straight up stop having names if it means they can stay rich

TBH I recommend a strategy that doesn't reveal you need a face photograph and a name, even if that means writing names down at a slower pace, or making deaths seem like normal jetsking/cocaine accidents.

Light is the son of a cop, and later, a cop himself. And he has the critical thinking skills of a high schooler.

Killing them won't do you no good if the system is still in place. It just provokes more state crackdown. You can't death note your way to class consciousness either. And you need the support of at least part of the population if an utopia is to be built.

so I dunno if it’d be a good idea to present yourself as supernatural

You can completely hide this easily. Just write down "X was assassinated by a verifiable member/enthusiast of Y" then pick one (or mix and match): DSA/4rth International/Black Hammer/QAnon/kekistan. FBI will be too busy investigating your strawman group and looking for secret discord chatrooms that don't exists to presume there is something supernatural.

Just write down the names of everyone with bad politics, or everyone who pulls a Sinema. The system will be fixed in 10 years lol.

If yeeting every dirtbag ruler worked, then the period leading up to ww1 where anarchists and communists were committing terrorism and political assassination would have seen an unprecedented period of world peace.

I mean my God, they blew up a fucking tsar and the tsars' kid became even more repressive and reactionary. (The father of the last tsar btw)

Big difference tho, the notebook guarantees the success of the random actors, and can carry out a long-term plan. Some of the actors in the past had no long-term plan, and had a high rate of failure. All the notebook holder needs to do is pick and support an organization that already exists.

You can control how a person dies, and make them do things for quite a while. Like, he killed the FBI agents investigating him by basically writing a program that would have the one FBI agent whose name he knew write variables that would then make other FBI agents reveal names, that would then make those FBI agents die. So basically, he could have one billionaire of his choice do a complete 180, use their funds to fund a socialist revolutionary cell, get that cell to then destroy the bourgeois class, and then have said billionaire redeem themself by dying.

Me using the death note: write every bourgeois name to perish on the same day 1-2 years from now (the date and time are funny numbers)
