Thinking about playing a solo game of dungeons and dragons using this website called roll20.net, I think it's free browser based software that simulates a tabletop. Maybe I should try the OG DnD, the first one that ever came out, with the basic classes and campaigns to not make things complicated.
If you're new to D&D absolutely do not start with the earlier versions. Fifth Edition it is by far the easiest/least complicated to start with.
Thanks for the heads up.
roll20 is pretty good for a free vtt
though if you're interested in tabletop stuff, we do have a dnd3.5 west marches server if you would like to join us
Thanks I know about the groups that play on here.
fair enough

OG DnD is fucking complex as hell
If I invest some time into figuring it out would I learn?
it's honestly not worth it because of how weird the systems are, and how much a lot was streamlined in like literally 40-50 odd years of iterative game design. old school DnD was a niche hobby for ultra nerds coming from tabletop wargames who were expected to just know the conventions of weird dice roleplaying stuff, where more modern editions come at things with the idea that new players should be able to get into this
