I can't believe this dude puts out 2 videos a year and makes minimum $22K per month. I know this isn't a meritocracy, but damn dude.
tbf those 5 hour monsters take literal months to shoot and edit
I thought he puts out a bunch of videos on Patreon or Nebula or whatever platform that's paywalled, then releases the big ones on his youtube channel. Could be wrong though
Most of that is from like streaming stuff. Long form video essays are only viable as advertisers for other cross media products.
I mean I don't know what he's been working on, but if it's a video game thing like 4-5 hours. If it's a conspiracy theory from the right 2-3. If it's actual functional change to society 1-2, with most of it being capitalism bad, but without any actual suggestions about change.
Hbomberguy's next video:
He plays Elden Ring on stream and the stream keeps going when he sleeps so it 's infinitely long.
sorry, but the only video longer than 25min that I've ever watched was Folding Ideas' 2h NFT discussion, and I did it in several sittings
I cannot manage to sit through a 3h video about games, no matter how much I like them
I do watch these, it's just that I feel like three to five hours are way better spent on a good movie or a talk by someone a bit more qualified. Might be a bit arrogant on my part, I dunno, but I just can't even begin to comprehend the level of self-confidence (or whatever else drives that impulse) needed to record and publish a 4+ hour video essay of you talking about a subject. I'm a teacher and I do not know if I can speak for that long about the stuff I teach.
Watch it on 1.5x speed.
Most people split the videos so it is more like 6 half hour episodes just in one easy to find spot for the algorithm
12 hours, includes a movie commentary of Titanic and a commentary over an all bosses no glitch speed run of Dark Souls III done by a newer speed runner (takes them 2.5 hours). There is an hour of silence over a black screen except for a one frame title card of "hah gotcha"
No breadtuber has the capacity to make a >10-30 min video worth its time. It's simply an obsession with length for its own sake as a marker of importance. I've not seen a single one that couldn't be cut dramatically without compromising its message.
The effect of course is that it's only influencing the thoughts of people who decide to watch such a 3 hour video, aka preaching to the Patreon choir.
Regardless of what I think of her liberal degeneration, at least early Contrapoints tried to make videos intended to be watched by new viewers.
