My dentist told me to only use soft because firm bristles destroy enamel and erode your gums.

On one hand, it's not like they sell toothbrushes. What reason do they have to lie?
On the other hand, they want your teeth to rot and fall out. What reason do they have to be honest?

I prefer a firm toothbrush, but it's always soft by the time everyone else is done with it
I am thrifty Conrad, I use brillo pad woven from mine own pubis.
My dentist recommended an electric toothbrush and gave me a coupon for it. I reluctantly agreed, stuck in their sphere now but.... it does work pretty well. If you hate flossing I recommend one and focus on your gums, keeps em pink.
I like the ones with the little "polishing" bit in the middle. Basically some plastic, feels good on the gums.
