Royal was the 2007 Socialist Party presidential candidate in France. She is also wrong about anime - it's detrimental to everyone, not just children.

I welcome your downbears.

Anime is for nerds. Now excuse me while I go read a book where someone who is not J.R.R. Tolkien took a bunch of random doodles Tolkien made in a notebook in 1971 and then wrote an entire 4-book saga based on these doodles, because I must consume every bit of lore about Middle Earth.

A fr*nch with a good take? Can it be possible?

Nah for real, for many years I felt repelled to "japanese related things" cuz the rancid weebs that populate this world, god I hate them. Yes, I know there are cool people who likes anime, but you are a tiny minority.

the thing with weebs is pretty much the same with gamers like games are not bad inherently it is just that people that make it their identity tend to suck, like there are good japanese media products, i no joke was reading Pluto the other day it is a Robot noir from like early 2000s and in the middle of this manga there is an anti war metaphor that is for sure talking about the us invasion of iraq, but this is hidden by the ammount of trash with 2949048901411 old dragons that look like a kid or similars that saturated the market

I feel like the few anime shows or manga that I've enjoyed have been good despite the anime-tropes, not because of them.

Like, Avatar, FMA, One punch man, all were good, but kind of despite the weird anime tropes and random over-emotional outbursts, and for One Punch man especially, the horny. Dear god, I hate horny anime fanservice with a passion.

Oh yeah, things like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy, among others, are also great example of things I feel like would be better without the 'weird anime shit', especially the horny.

It always feels like such a huge tonal clash when it happens in otherwise good stories. Like in Final Fantasy XV, the main characters are a prince and his bodyguards picking up the pieces after an empire invaded their country and killed the king, but then sometimes there's a sexy mechanic fanservice girl who looks like she comes from a totally different universe.

Really? 1989? The golden age of anime? When most of the things that make anime cringe weren't widespread yet? :shrug-outta-hecks:

Anyway, y'all are praising a socdem

What anime was available to frogs back in 89? Voltron, Transformers, and Thundercats?

What kind of 30 minute toy commercials did she want to replace it with?

Disclaimer: I grew up in Gabagoolland, not France.

Ken Le Survivant (Fist of the North Star) - had an infamously bad dub.

Nicky Larson (City Hunter) - Good Action Comedy anime with a banger soundtrack and an unfortunately too horny MC (played for laughs but still) France censored some of the more yikes episodes.

Les Chevaliers du Zodiaque (Saint Seiya) - Fantasy Action anime, I believe?

The Mysterious Cities of Gold - Set in 1500s South America. Probably very dated, but apparently pretty good.

Dragon Ball (1986) - First manga translated by professional publisher.

Albator (Captain Harlock) - One of Leiji Matsumoto's Space Operas, though less legendary than Space Battleship Yamato

Ulysses 31 - Greek Mythology, in space. The MC looks like Obi-Wan Kenobi

And a bunch of good mecha shows probably.

Is this part of the same snooty French anti-anime sentiment that led the Asterix author (well, the remaining one at the time anyway) to write that story about evil anime aliens attacking Gaul, who are defeated with the power of America and Disney

Majority of what was popular and on TV in the 80s in France probably were world masterpiece theater anime based on classic literature by legendary and pretty left wing creators , some dumb fun super robot shows and probably stuff like Lupin, candy candy and some other shoujo. Bad take banning them for what? Tom and Jerry (which is good ngl)

Lupin III is banned in France because it is violating French copyright laws(he's the grandson of a French literary character of the same name). Inspector Gadget was originally going to be a spin-off of Lupin set in the future, with the titular Inspector Gadget being the grandson of Inspector Zenigata, but some arcane French copyright laws applied to Quebec somehow, which was where the show was being made, so they had to completely file off anything identifiable as Lupin.
