nothing says "women will never fuck me" like angry men who hate sex workers but love free sex.

those horny gamers are of course wrong but sex work is an oppression just like wage work , I don't think we should praise sex work. Solidarity with sex workers, that are exploited just like any worker.

Pre-loading would be the only reason I would pre-order. I did it with Animal Crossing so I could already have it installed and play it the second it unlocked lol. Generally pre-orders are fucking stupid and I wait for reviews though.

I'm kinda dumb and don't really know how to pirate safely, I used fitgirl a few times, and a direct downloader once or twice, and I got the email thing from comcast saying they got mad at me, and got too freaked out

Someone recently made a piracy 101 two part thread here on the lemmy that’s a good place to start. Using a VPN should keep you mostly safe AFAIK (I’ve been torrenting with one for about a year and haven’t run into any issues). I’m far from an expert though so I’d give the thread a look.

I definitely second pirating CDPR’s stuff given their scummy labor practices, if it’s feasible. And honestly, more broadly, having access to a wide range of human culture and art separate from the material barriers set up by the profit motive/commodity form is just incredibly liberating and humanizing. Piracy is (95% of the time, try not to pirate indie games and the like if you can afford it) dope.

What VPN do you use? I mostly avoided them due to being poor and not being able to afford a monthly fee.

https://hexbear.net/post/1326 there ya go! It's a good place to start. IIRC most VPNs are comparable in price if not cheaper than streaming services (with a much bigger return on investment), so if you have say Netflix and are willing to part with it it'd probably even out.

Mullvad is very cheap, clocks in at around 5.50 USD per month, no subscription required. Sometimes I let it expire and don't re-up until I come up with a couple things that I want to torrent.

NordVPN, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it - I think they got into hot water for shoddy privacy practices kind of recently? I'm stuck with them for two more years though, so oh well. That said, my UNDERSTANDING is that most VPNs are good enough for torrenting, since it's a relatively low risk activity to begin with. Again, not an expert so I'd do a little more digging before committing to one. And let me see if I can find the Lemmy thread for ya.

Fitgirl is the way to go right now for the least amount of hassle.

You get emails from your ISP mainly by seeding so if you download a torrent just make sure to stop the upload after it finishes and close out of the torrent software completely.

Pre-ordering gets you a handful of tat that you will presumably be able to buy separately after it comes out if you really like it and won't care to have if the game ends up being bad.

Pre-ordering is dumb but I did it anyways so that I didn't have to think about it when it came out. I hardly ever pre-order or buy things at full price (thanks to Steam sales and my infinite level of patience).
