"Standalone sequel" - what a horrible phrase.

Can't wait for the CGI Bill Paxton to show up and say "It's Twistin' Time"

They could also have CGI Philip Seymour Hoffman.

I watched Near Dark recently. Paxton was great in that along with all the others. What a great group of vampires.

Oh shit I forgot Hoffman was in Twister, nice catch.

While on the subject of Bill Paxton my favorite piece of trivia about him is that he gets killed by an Alien (Aliens) a Predator (Predator 2) and a Terminator (The Terminator). The 80s Sci Fi trinity of antagonists.

an Alien (Aliens) a Predator (Predator 2) and a Terminator (The Terminator)

Holy shit. I wonder if any other actor has at least two out of three died in all three too.

          Edit

Lance Henrikson, Michael Biehne are basically two out of three. I somehow forgot.

I don't think so. Lance Henrikson and Michael Biehne get killed in Terminator 1 but technically survive (albeit in a fucked up state) in Aliens, so that's kinda close but all I can think of.

              Lance Henrikson... Michael Biehne

Haha - I'm laughing at my own poor memory. Without googling it's a struggle. I could say more but it's actually sort of disturbing so I'll stop here.

My memory is just geared toward stupid tidbits like that. Like how Bill Paxton and Michael Biehn have been in a bunch of movies together. Terminator, Aliens, Navy Seals, Tombstone. I grew up just assuming those dudes were a twofer.

                  Navy Seals, Tombstone.

                  I never saw those but...

I grew up just assuming those dudes were a twofer.

They should've done a buddy movie. <-- That's not a sentence I ever thought I'd write. I like a few buddy movies from the 1980s but that's about it. I am not a fan of the buddy genre. But those two would have been an exception in any decade.

You can skip navy seals (It's just a dumb hoorah 'murrica action movie) but Tombstone is a fun flick. It's a western with a very memorable cast and quotes. Val Kilmer steals every scene he's in.

I kinda agree with you about buddy movies. Sometimes it's okay but I really gotta be in the mood outside a few exceptions like Die Hard With a Vengeance.

Lethal Weapon must have been one of the most (if not the most) successful buddy movie of its day. I really liked it. I still do. Maybe I'll watch it this weekend again. So it was a ginormous hit and Hollywood loves formulaic stuff. Every buddy movie tried to shamelessly copy Lethal Weapon vibe. I think it took about 5 years for the entire genre to already start to go stale. I didn't think that way at the time though. In fact - I loved formulaic stuff. I couldn't get enough of it.

Tango & Cash came out in 1989 with Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell. I remember liking it back then. Hell, that was when I was actually spending money to see movies. Now I just torrent everything. A few years ago I rewatched it and I didn't like it at all. I thought it only had two good scenes: the tanker trunk scene in the beginning and the grenade scene near the ending. Time changes you. And 30 years certainly changed me. But I can't believe I ever liked it.

If you're curious about Tango & Cash - just watch those two scenes. There's no need to watch anything else.
