sOuLs vEt with thousands of hours throughout all games, can confirm this is the hardest boss I’ve fought, probably fought more than 100 times and only gotten to phase 2 about 10 of those times.

The one mind attack is just stupid powerful and i haven’t really found the dodge pattern except for running away and locking off during the third round of that attack and rolling away from it.

She's worse than Orphan of Kos?

Oh god I'm not going to finish this game am I?

Kos took less attempts but the only issue I have is that flurry attack which just kills instantly, first phase isn’t as bad so long as you know her attack patterns and I appreciate that she isn’t as aggro during her first phase. You can just keep your distance for the most part, if you use summons or spirits I think you can beat it in a few attempts. I haven’t really adapted to the second phase yet because it’s too hard to get too, best I got was her health down to 1/4 phase 2

Maliketh took less attempts but I reckon it’s a harder boss fight than melania, at least with her fight you have more healing / attack windows. Maliketh just doesn’t stop phase one or two it’s just a constant all out attack. Only reason I killed him was because I got the riposte during the start of his second phase which got his health down quite a bit.

These bosses are really hard and unbalanced, pretty sure they were created with summoning / spirits in mind.

Never played Bloodborne, but she has lifedrain on her sword and it's fucking broken. Even if you shield up and receive 0 damage, she will recover like a quarter or more just for swinging her sword against a literal plank of wood. It just makes me recall all the people saying shit like "Margit's ninja spazzing teaches you to alternate between dodging, shielding and guard countering" they're full of shit and they make me angry just to know they're out there practicing the egoraptor school of game criticism.

        spoiler

Also I think you get the shit ending if you don't defeat Malenia. I mean, my heart of hearts tell me that if I don't defeat the lady behind the space flu, maybe they can't live happily ever after.

I keep forgetting that shields are supposed to be good again in this game, I'm so used to playing without them (except a buckler for parrying) that I've probably made the game significantly harder on myself. I wonder if I should pick one up- I don't even really understand what guard countering is.

It's just pressing R2 after blocking. It's surprisingly easy to execute but it's also fairly circumstantial, enemies can easily hit you while you're performing your cool counter technique especially with heavy weapons

She's an optional boss fortunately, though RIP if you're trying to get all the achievements lol.

I can live without the platinum trophy. I eventually got to a point where I just had to accept that I'm not good enough at these games to beat the really hard bosses and I'm no longer patient enough to keep trying.

Honestly, give me Elden Ring without any boss fights and it's the game of the century for me. From bosses just don't do anything for me anymore

Savage Rajang or whatever was cool in MH:W, really fun to blow up with sticky ammo. Tbh I don't think I've been this frustrated since AT Velkhana

I never got into endgame World, so my frame of reference is like, 140 Apex Rajang from 4U and Massacre Diablos 10 from GenU.

World got way more into the "spamming AoE everywhere" bullshit though so I imagine that was a bad time

Post-endgame iceborne was like "you have 35 minutes to kill this elder dragon that can one-hit kill you and also it has three times the health :)"

I only just beat her today after many hours and 60+ attempts. We hate to see her folks, she says she's the Blade of Miquella but Miquella, he's just a loser in an egg! Just an egg, can you believe that? That reminds me of someone who's not in an egg. Radahn. Starscourge they call him, Starscourge... What a great word, starscourge... He holds back the stars folks. And that's just great, he's a great guy, great great general. Great general. When I talked to him at the new years party before the nasty nasty Shattering - nasty nasty business, the Shattering. and we hate to see it we really do, don't do we? don't we? But I said to him, I said - Radahn youve got to watch out, you've got to watch out... Washed up psycho Malenia thinks she's never been matched! Thinks she's never been matched.... And I say to him watch out! Because you know that she's just a loser who has a things for eggs. Eggs, folks! And even when she couldnt win and made all that nasty rot, she still didn't kill him or his tiny horse!

But yeah anyway, I respecced into dual wielding katanas dex/int. Bleed (and frost i hear) both help a lot. A lot of her moves can be interrupted too, but you have to watch out for the hyperarmor. Mimic tear +10 is a godsend even after the nerf

It's just a modly egg, can you believe it? Absolutely and totally disgusting, folks. Many, many people have told me "Miquella, he's a great guy, fantastic guy, he might become god one day" and I say well let's talk to him, he sounds like a great guy, and believe me, I only saw a moldy, ugly egg.

Yeah she’s tough. Not sure what kind of build you’re running, but she takes a lot of damage from frostbite and bleed, that’s how I beat her. Cold Flamberge +25 and mimic tear, with the both of us hitting her you can get bleeds and freezes pretty frequently. If you can corner her you can deal a ton of damage to her really quickly. If you’re trying without any spirits or summons then good luck, don’t think I could do it lol

I'm rocking the colossal Greatsword and also Mimic Tear was nerfed and doesn't do enough damage to offset the heals she's getting off of it.

Yeah mimic tear sucks for it. I just summoned other players, a lot more fun like that for me lol.

She's doable, I tried her solo enough to like see how to avoid the insane attacks, but I just don't have the attention spam to keep it up that long anymore I guess hahaha

    So if people want tips:

    spoiler

You wanna swing into her. I know it's counter intuitive, but you can stuff A LOT of her attacks. Even attacks that have a lot of hyper armor while in motion (her charge, the grab) can be stuffed in the early frames. The issue is that a lot of the heavier weapons would be less likely to catch her in these moments and faster weapons may not have the poise damage to cause her to flinch. I found the most effective weapon to be the Bloodhound's Fang - apparently you can cheese her with it's weapon art, but I never tried - it's just a solid mix of damage, speed, range, poise break and a bit of bleed. But that's gonna change based on your build and what weapons you found.

Since she can flinch fairly easily, be sure to go for charging attacks if she leaves big gaps - the one attack with two slow swipes, where she goes up and then down, is a good time for this. Also, make sure you never double tap - you want to make sure you get the riposte , so only input a second attack if you see her flinch and not take a knee.

The big problem with her is her Water Fowl attack. I've seen people manage to run away from the first flurry, but I never managed to avoid it, ever. I could dodge to the side and back enough to take me down to about half health. The second flurry is fairly easy to just roll forward into, and with the third, you can just stand still while she flies over you - when she lands, roll backwards. This'll clip you, but do minimal damage if you've been levelling Vigour. Once she's landed and your out of the radius of the final explosion, you can heal up the damage from the first flurry. She also has an insane move in Phase 2 where she throws illusory version of herself at you , but frankly, I only saw this twice and never learnt to dodge it. :::

I noticed that Malenia shares the water fowl start up with another homing thrusting attack that heavily punishes you if you run away lol. It's almost the same anime pose where she floats a little bit in the air but the thrust interrupts her air stance, you're supposed to roll at the last second because she homes in. Water fowl start up lasts almost a full 3 seconds but if you misjudge and don't run far enough you're eating all of it

I've only gotten to her 2nd phase once, and that was with me dual wielding a +10 Darkmoon Greatsword & +25 Lordsworn's Greatsword and using a +7 mimic tear. I actually still had 9-10 health flasks left by the time I got to the 2nd phase, so I wasn't doing that bad tbh. But my mimic tear died just before I finished off her first phase, meaning I was going into her 2nd phase completely blind and with nothing to draw agro/help deal damage, so I died almost immediately lol.

The dual greatswords are really great for staggering her and dealing massive damage at the same time, and the Darkmoon Greatsword has the added benefit of frost damage, so my current setup/strategy should be good enough to defeat her eventually, but I really need to upgrade my mimic tear to +10 so that it can hopefully survive into the 2nd phase.

Just beat her today, I have to travel out of town for all of next week so I didn't want to leave her unresolved so I broke down and summoned 2 players to help me. Even then it was a crap shoot, I think it was 30 attempts with summons before I won. Might have to see on NG+ if a magic build fares any better than my dual katana samurai

I finally beat her. Used the same setup as before, but with my mimic tear up to +10. That said, it still took me ~20-30 tries just today in order to finally win, and even then, I basically just got lucky. My mimic tear managed to survive until right before I killed her 2nd phase, and she didn't really pull many of her more BS attacks. I did die from scarlet rot right after though lol, as can be seen in my victory screenshot.

Awesome! On a whim I upgraded rivers of blood to +10 because I had a vast stock of somber stones, I'll look for Mohg and see if he can be beaten with my current setup and then I'll just spam the rivers of blood weapon art on Malenia with the Mimic Tear. See I won't play fair and I'll do it as cheap as possible.
