    Damn, I was worried that Natalie was being extremely transphobic, pleasantly surprised.

    Big "authoritarianism is good, but only when it benefits me personally" vibes.

    Based tweet, though. :frothingfash: :trans-gun::stalin-gun-2:

      "Sorry <other marginalized group>, I can't advocate force to help defend you because that would be authoritarian. Force should only be used to defend <my marginalized group>."

    Thanks Natalie.

    Stalin did absolutely nothing wrong. Authoritarianism is GOOD actually.

    CW: transphobia and homophobia

    spoiler

    On a related note, I have a bad habit of keeping my finger on the pulse of white evangelical social media. There definitely has been a concerted effort recently to try and label literally just acknowledging trans kids exist or treating homosexuality as normal in schools as "grooming". We're going back to the early 90s bay beeee! Back to when reactionaries tried to equate anything related to LGBT to pederasty.

    It's great because they don't understand how this shit just blows up in their faces. Push the line that your religion says LGBT folks are satanic monsters. And then when your kids get away from your abuse and see how we're all just people, they will realize everything you taught them was bullshit. Brilliant.

      I'd buy this if I saw Conservative Christian politicians losing a significant base of political or financial support. But by and large, they persist - and even prosper - by peddling their bigotry to the next generation of transphobic suburban liberals. Their kids grow up hating and fearing anything outside of the norm and it can take decades to deprogram them, assuming they don't end up in some corporate office or white nationalist school district that's just as bigoted and reactionary as their old ones.

      "It Gets Better" might be true for a significant majority of folks, as they actually come out and get away from their indoctrinated family and neighbors. Or it might just be survivorship bias, espoused by the ones that didn't get lynched or driven into the depths of poverty or cowed into the closet by a lifetime of abuse.

      But its definitely not true on the political stage. For all the "gains" we've made in my 40 years of life, I still see the same old districts and states putting up the same set of hateful reactionaries, running the same tired Wedge-Issue strategy that put Reagan in the White House before I was born.

      I mean, just reading the explanations of the anti-trans bills/directives that have been making the news this year... Calling a kid by a name they want to be called is somehow "child abuse" now.
