From one comment on Pakistan subreddit

Not to mention the fact that not a single Pakistani PM has completed the full 5 year term, either being ousted by the President, loosing the majority, being assassinated or being couped, so one can say it was fate that dictated this crisis.

Since the position created in 1947, not a single one complete 1 full term, crazy

Congrats on pulling this one off, CIA. It's been a while since you successfully changed a regime, we didn't know if you still had it in you.

i mean Anez in Bolivia was successful, albeit it only lasted a year. Are we sure this one will last that long?

It’s funny because when he got elected, he was really anti China, pro west, going to capitulate to India, even delay the cpec for few years. Now he’s extremist, enemy of democracy and India. Lol, the new PM is friend to the current Afghan PM, it’s going to be interesting. The new election will be in two years, I suspect the cricketer will be back

You knew he was in the CIA's cross hairs when he had that meeting with Putin (terrible scheduling ahead of time), right after Russia launched their attacks on Ukraine. He was openly threatened by the US embassy when he refused to condemn Russia. Pakistan is sometimes called China's Israel, but it's unfortunate, sections of the Pakistani establishment have always been willing to do the US' bidding, from their fight against the Soviets in Afghanistan to the War on Terror. A lot of the Pakistani elites have family living in the US and plan on retiring there, so they are easily bought off.

Two of their lifelong political leaders (Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif) are literally the 5th and 7th richest Pakistanis in the world-- the country has been plain looted for decades, and will now continue to be.

I see a lot of people assuming Imran Khan was correct in saying the US wanted him out.

Do we have any evidence of this other than his word? For instance, is the opposition more US friendly? Have other parties talked about derailing BRI or buying F-35s or something?

Edit: I guess I could see the US doing this cause chaos even if the opposition to Khan were equally anti-western. But, I'm still curious for evidence

He named Donald Lu as the US official carrying out a warning and local media refused to have details of the letter published. It's all really foggy.

Khan is a fucking liberal, a Soc-dem at best if you’re being generous but he gave us hope. I for one had hope that this man is looking out for my country, for the common man, for the worker. His crime for which he was ousted? He dared to not go to the IMF, but the army forced him, he dared to try and give Pakistan an independent foreign policy away from the slavery of the west but how dare he.

Is every political event pre-ordained by the CIA for you? Does this 'coup' serve the CIA? It could just be political jockeying between bourgeoises, from what ive read he's a generic socdem who's pro-west. I am open to it but I dont know enough about Pakistan yet to form an opinion and there hasnt been clear alerts of US meddling.

Is every political event pre-ordained by the CIA for you?

      no

Does this ‘coup’ serve the CIA?

      I don't know

It could just be political jockeying between bourgeoises

It could. Nevertheless intelligence agencies often come into play in inter-bourgeois conflict, just as they come into play in class conflict.

from what ive read he’s a generic socdem who’s pro-west

yeah someone else in this thread said that's how he was initially perceived and he's changed his tune or something. idk.

I am open to it but I dont know enough about Pakistan yet to form an opinion

      same

there hasnt been clear alerts of US meddling.

well Imran Khan himself has stated in semi-explicit terms that he thinks the US is trying to topple him.

Fighting for his political life, Khan addressed the nation late Thursday, appearing to blunder when he named the United States as the origin of a "message" he said showed meddling in Pakistan's affairs.

"America has -- oh, not America but a foreign country I can't name. I mean from a foreign country, we received a message, They say that 'our anger will vanish if Imran Khan loses this no-confidence vote'"
