Yeah I've heard of having to make sure the chlorine levels are good. I'd imagine there's mechanical stuff that can go wrong or stuff that gets trapped in the vacuum. Did you have fun parties at least? Or get to swim in it a lot for exercise?
I had some decent parties. My dog loved it. And yeah, it was cool to come home from work and do laps. But, if you live anywhere with seasons, each season outside of Summer is an added expense, and time consuming. Pollen. Leaves. Covering the pool for Winter.
Then there's the plumbing.
And then there's the regular chemistry.
So yeah, it's a balancing act. When we moved I pretty much swore off pools forever. I have a hot tub my friend gave me and I installed and it's like 5% the level of effort to keep it going versus a pool.
Side note: Hot tubs are free on CL all the time. They're actually super easy to install, even if you do everything to code. Highly recommended.
Idk I've heard that it's mixed. Like if you're selling some buyers wont' even look at your house anymore because they don't want to deal with taking care of the pool. On the other hand you'll attract buyers that DO want a pool and they'll pay more. But yeah IDK I haven't seen numbers so this is just anecdotal and you could be right.
Definitely agree, I very shortly looked into what it would cost to get a low end boat I could just take out every now and then and it actually pissed me off how expensive it would be. Especially since I'd have to keep it in storage. I thought about getting a fixer upper and realized it would require more tools than I got and more space than I have lol. Kinda a bummer but I do have a cousin who has a boat and go out with him maybe once or twice a year and honestly that's good enough for me
There are a few things in life you think you want, but in reality you just want your friend to have it so you can borrow it from time to time.
A boat is one of those items. As is a time share. And a backyard pool.
This is why we need library socialism
Are backyard pools really so bad?
Rented a house that had one. The maintenance is manageable but its certainly not cheap.

Oh interesting.
It was described as "Having a backyard pool won't increase your property value" which I think says it all.

This is how I feel about pets. Love it when I can pet one that someone else is taking care of
imagine having a communal dog, you split walkies and expenses between the members of the community
cats are already communal if theyre outdoor cats
The problem is the bird and rodent genocide cats participate in when they live outside
Comparing a pool to a time share isn't a connection I was expecting but it makes so much sense.
I've made a ton of terrible decisions so you don't have to.
