My college experience was defined by Friday nights playing Magic, D&D, or World of Darkness at the gaming club then going for drinks and half off apps at Applebee's. It has its place... Though I'll never forgive them getting rid of the steak quesadilla towers.
Sometimes I wish us Aussies had all of the wildass chain restaurants you have in the states just so I could try this shit. Then I remember how nice it is not to be surrounded by a zillion chains that are replicated across the country.
go to the same restaurants to eat the same thing i always do at the same price
Not true, it will be slightly more expensive in bigger cities because muh market forces
I remember some chud tried to open an Olive Garden in St Kilda a while back. There are like 30 authentic Italian places right around the corner and they were surprised when that shit closed down three months later.
Seriously, beyond McDonalds, KFC and Hungry Jack's (our name for Burger King), Australia is thankfully poison for your chains
I genuinely don't get it. Olive Garden and Texas Roadhouse have unlimited bread that's really good. Ihop and Denny's are dogshit but are open 24/7. Applebee's somehow got big despite not having really good free bread or being open all the time. I can never imagine having multiple restaurants to choose from and picking Applebee's. It has no redeemable qualities.
The only place I've had steak at thats been better than steak made at home is the Windsor in Chicago. Not even a super fancy place, they just know how to cook a steak. Best menu item at both Olive Garden and Texas Roadhouse is their salmon.

i love restaurants that give me unlimited bread so much -- its all i eat when im dragged to one.
this may be an unpopular opinion................ but try the chicken wonton tacos (if they still have them), and if not just get the cheese sticks (double or triple sauce, of course)
