But trans people can serve in the military again! never mind that the party is apathetic to the waves of state legislation passing under Biden harming trans people domestically, they'll gladly ship you overseas to slaughter foreigners

        apathetic
        quietly supportive of.

fixed it for you. I bet at least 50% of democratic legislators are transphobes.

yeah, I would argue that they have. because the Republicans are happy to sabotage anything and everything when they aren't in office, and the democrats do nothing when they are in office, we end up with a situation where, other than some specific (and admittedly important!) civil rights issues, Republicans have produced better material conditions in the past decade.

As long as Trump was in office, they would continue changing the rules and doing whatever was necessary to keep inflation down, and stuff like that.

Under Biden, we get the environmental harm, the anti-lgbt stuff, AND inflation.

If he were even doing anything about civil rights, I'd maybe say "ok, well that is important and I'll still vote for him because I care about marginalized comrades." But he isn't even doing that.

Edit: this isn’t to say that i would prefer a republican president but more so that the dems don’t have a leg to stand on here

no, you're right. I actively oppose republicans. it is also an objective fact that Republicans have done more to improve material conditions for the average person over the past 4 years. even if the reason is that they've sabotaged Democrat efforts to do so. the outcome is still the outcome.

Democrats have to be the only people that get a smug look on their face when they lose. Even under lib electoralism, democrats are practically an irrelevant third party that only stick around to be the fall guy for the GOP and they are STILL annoyingly self-satisfied.

Guess what, dipshit? The GOP actually IS in touch with the youth and they know what they want: nazism and whatever ISIS does but with Christians. You don't have the luxury of smugly twiddling your thumbs.

Even in their wildest fantasies, liberals still see themselves seeking approval from Republicans to pass legislation. They've spun this to say they're civil and see both sides when in reality they believe in nothing and want nothing.

It's extra funny because Joe Biden was originally registered as Republican but thought Nixon was too uncivil, so he switched; I guess you could say he was a 'Never Nixon' Republican

'Never Trump' Conservative supporting a 'Never Nixon' President lmao

Many youths are actively falling into fascism as neoliberalism fails to address the declining material conditions of the empire. Those that turn to Marxism as the answer are actively rebuffed by those who should supposedly be their allies.

I guess what I'm saying is that there we be many "kids" who actively enjoy the GoPs rule. It's not like they seem to get any other option besides turning hard right, politically.

This hits hard, since I have seen this happen too. It's just all about infighting and destroying one another and POSTING. There is no solidarity, no in-person praxis. Just POSTING.

        :this:

no one is perfect. and that doesn't mean we have to accept reactionary positions. but rejecting people as a whole because they have a single bad stance is counterproductive. Not only do I think someone who is a leftist on 99% of things, except, say, sex work, is still fundamentally a good person and a net positive for our cause, but also, someone who 99% agrees with you will probably come around eventually on that last little bit. whether it's veganism or sex work or neopronouns or guns or bunny cops or whatever.

Jesus christ the replies alone are worth a read. I just don't really know how many times these weird political people have to learn the same fucking lesson. It's extra fun given the parallels between the dems in the US and labour over here.

'Young people' (not really but whatever, we can use it as a stand in for people more or less disilusioned and disnefranchised by the current regime) aren't gonna vote for the other guys they are just not gonna vote or chuck away their vote on a 3rd party they know won't win.

You aren't gonna scare them into voting with horror stories cos frankly at a certain point it's hard to fathom a microscopic difference in how shit and insecure your life will be.

You're not gonna browbeat or guilt trip them into voting either cos largely they correctly view the democratic party machine as a pit of lanyard wearing, corrupt and self serving vipers.

Jesus fucking christ, if you want people to vote for you then actually offer them something meaningful that will actually improve their lives, otherwise the brainworm infected monsters will gleefully turn out and elect some utter arsehole cos there's a good chance they will be able to vicariously enjoy the horror that the government will openly subject minority groups to, as opposed to conducting it behind closed doors like the dems will carry on doing.

That's been a weird talking point of online conservatives for a while now. They've been comparing voting for politicians who offer welfare as tantamount to slavery because... I think the idea is if you weren't on welfare, you'd have more money to make a stupid small business. It's leaked into hustle culture too. Immediate material needs are secondary to long term imaginary business goals.

From the people I've seen on Twitter, it seems more like "we can't offer people things in exchange for their vote, that's immoral. They have to vote for Dems just because they're the moral choice, and how it affects their lives doesn't matter"

That's the neat part, they aren't interested in learning anything at all. These people make a fat living off of publicly saying "republicans bad" and that's it. Drafting up good policy or lifting a finger to do fucking anything except tweet nonsense would expose the sham that is Democrat politics. If they accomplished anything good at all, people would come to expect that. Instead, they can rely on the ridiculously short memory of Americans to forget about their complete ineptitude while they demand you vote for them. Carrot on a stick.

God that's so compelling to know that the options are shit and more shit. One the one hand, you have shit. On the other hand, you have shit. So there you are with two hands full of shit, wondering what the fuck to do! The answer of course, is pick the turd with the shade of brown you like most -- because those other guys, they're shiiiit.

I'd rather watch the country collapse than vote for a democrat because at least then people like Tom Nichols will either have to flee or will be consumed by the consequences of the society they built.
