      Reminder that WV was a reliably blue state for decades, even after it was abandoned by the Dems and deindustrialized. It was only in the 90s that it started shifting red

            The historical phenomenon, as with all things, is more complicated, but the long and short of it is basically yes. The democrats betray on union labor gutted the only real social formation in these regions that pushed back against the right.

      no you may be wondering what's the point of winning west virginia if you get Manchin out of it.

      plus it's an american election once anyone wins the first thing they do is gerrymander all the districts. as an election in america it's allmost definitionally rigged so if they wanted they could get whoever they want in within reason
