From the article

The world’s second-largest economy will grow just 2% this year, Bloomberg Economics wrote in a report Thursday. By comparison, US gross domestic product will increase 2.8% this year, Bloomberg Economics predicts.

So the US isn’t outpacing China, Bloomberg PREDICTS it will outpace China. Propaganda in action folks. :pinocchio-ussr:

It even gives a different number that contradicts itself later in the story. :tito-laugh:

The Bloomberg Economics call is on the bearish end of the spectrum, with the median forecast for China’s 2022 GDP growth still over 4%.

    Alternate headline:

China, which has locked down several of the largest manufacturing cities in earth, still competitive with US economic growth.

Turns out keeping your proletariat alive and well has the potential for economic upside.

I mean who gives a shit lol. Depending on the circumstances, any country could outpace any other country in any given year. What great analysis Bloomberg

Also GDP blows and should never ever be used ever again

Nice! Surely everyone has fulfilling jobs that pay enough for their cost of living and are keeping pace with inflation right?

One thing that helps with radicalization is that economic good times are bad for me, a worker, too.

The economy crashes? I take all the damage for porky. The economy is good? Look at California and it's "constantly booming housing market". Can't afford shit.

It's not going to be true. We already entered recession. We're going negative growth this quarter.

That's not a contradiction. They're saying according to their estimates the US will grow faster, but that is not the case with the median estimate from however many groups

That's how propaganda works though. People read the title and skim the article and all they remember are the vibes associated with it. The vibe with this is china bad, usa goood

I'm not saying this is anything put propaganda. There were US state department twitter accounts sharing this around because as you said, people see the title and skim it.

What does "this year" mean? The past 12 months, or the calendar year of 2022? If it's the latter then isn't it too early to tell? Too lazy to read the article, sorry.

Eh. Economists project future growth all the time based on current trends. A one-year projection isn't unusual. It just isn't particularly reliable, either.

This article sounds a bit like they're stacking America At Its Best to China At Its Worst, likely by leaning hard into "COVID lockdown make big number go down!!!" baseline assumptions. Given that last quarter's US GDP figures shrank, threatening a recession before the end of the year with another bad quarter, I gotta applaud anyone still predicting 2.8% growth through December. That's incredibly bullshit bullish sentiment, all things considered.

The whole article reeks of :cope: But the dick-measuring to China really does highlight how insecure American plutocrats are feeling going into the next decade.
