True and tbh a professor has more power than an electrician, even if the sparky is in the union.

Honestly, I'm not sure that's the right answer anymore. Anecdotally at least, it's a very white male statement, and they could just be subconsciously saying that they may be cash poor but their white identity makes them self identity as higher class.

I mean you can partially blame the culture of capitalist countries that brainwashes people into believing their self worth is equivalent to their net worth

i make more money now than ever before, 50k a year, and I'm still poor as shit. We should shame the libs into putting their yearly earnings into their bios on twitter so we can idpol them about their wealth.

My buddy has a tattoo that says “Poor Boy Penniless and Proud”, and I really like it.

I'll grant someone lower middle class if they own property but have a low income. Like I make okay money, in the $40k-45k range but I own no property and have shit credit so I will probably not own property anytime soon. I've met people who make less than me but own a modest home, sometimes even paid off. I've met people with low level government jobs that make about $35k/year (and are divorced and single) that own their $100k house and have a pension for when they retire. So I have more money in my checks but they have more stability and a more solidified class position than I do. You also just have more power when you own property.

I do have pathetic sympathy for downwardly mobile people who say this though.
