Like legit, chapo.chat feels so much smoother to traverse with, and it's aesthetics are so much more pleasing to the eye to look at. New reddit UI is absolute eye cancer to look at. Of course there are bugs and certain issues, but seriously good fucking job, devs. Also, more evidence that worker co-ops work.
Quick edit, but my title is inaccurate. THANK THE LEMMY DEVS FOR THE UNDERLYING TECH. As Beatnik said in the comments, the Chapo Devs also did a huge amount of work on the front end experience as well as other important functionalities, so THANK THEM AS WELL.
I mean our front end is basically it’s own fork at this point, but I agree the lemmy devs are real comrades and deserve hella credit as well.
Ah, here's something I've just noticed. Would be cool if mods/admins had colour coded tags next to their names instead of the grey ones like now, makes it easier to see when an admin has replied.
Ideally they wouldn't show up at all unless someone is replying in Mod Voice. Otherwise it obviously gets very intimidating to try to argue something unrelated with the fact that this person can ban you being shoved in your face, or a mod's random opinions being given more weight purely because of the tag. But that's probably lower priority anyways.
yeah the devs here turned that off. idk if they plan to turn it back on or if they plan on keeping it that way.
Honestly being able to edit title and description will lead to some annoying baits. I think it's best to just leave it to description
One of the things I learnt from watching the truth about patreon video you posted in the mega thread was that venture capital investment isn’t content with making profits it demands PERPETUALLY GROWING PROFITS
as an actual answer: reddit jerks themselves off about design principles and the average stupid user and lots of different experts and ideas, while anyone who doesn't do that and just wants to build something useful does something like the older reddit design
Adding to this: New reddit was designed for mobile first with desktop as an afterthought. Old reddit was the other way round.
(Although if you use reddit on Android then 3rd party apps are usually better than the official one anyway, so even with a "mobile first" design it isn't great)
Ha, joke's on them, I use the desktop version of old reddit on my phone
New reddit was designed for mobile first
They clearly never ate their own dogfood.
If this is the correct person, you want to thank them and the rest of the team that helped. @dessalines
Otherwise, jump on Mastodon and send Dessalines a message: https://mastodon.social/@dessalines
Not to undercut Beatnik who is also doing great work in getting the platform up and running. But Dessalines is the real comrade responsible for Lemmy as a whole and is working overtime right now to improve it.
PSA: if you’re on a phone and you “add to homescreen” (instructions vary by platform) the emulated-app experience is quite nice. Removes a lot of the browser chrome and gives you more leg room to post in
exactly the only thing i struggle with is getting push/banner/lock notifications on mobile. apparently firefox on android works though
literally it's only missing: a back button that takes you back to where in the main feed you left off. other than that, it's essentially a full-blown app.
yeah I was thinking I might raise this one in the feedback community, or even offer to tackle it myself
on the webpage in Safari, the bottom toolbar should have a share icon on it (Square with an arrow coming out) and in the options there will be “add to home screen” listed (May have to scroll down a bit)
On Chrome on Android it’s easier. Hopefully Apple builds some of this soon. https://web.dev/customize-install/
Do you have any idea why I get the following error? "This hexbear.net page can't be found No website was found for the web address: hhttps://hexbear.net/static/assets" Maybe its because it automatically adds the rest of the stuff to the chapo.chat when I add it to homescreen, I don't know how any of this stuff works.

no, the squirrel is used as the megaphone. you can eat the megaphone though, we don't need it now that we have the squirrel
Because capitalism breeds innovation! Reddit failed to both adequately corner the link aggregator market and make the innovations needed to remain competitive, so beatnik and his team of free market innovators built an ambitious start up to take big tech head on. Cleverly appropriating open source software, the Chapo chat team built a decentralized next gen platform for the memes, and the internet, of the future.
I definitely checked chapo.chat every other day or so when it was still in maintenance. praise the chapo and lemmy devs o7
Political ideologies of keeping things shitty for millions of people to make money or wanting to make things better by learning what systems work and what systems don't informing design philosophies
Jesus Christ, that looks just like their subreddit. Which is not a good thing.
That's what you get when your whole ideology is "let's copy this old aesthetic"
Can we add in the A for upvote, Z for downvote keyboard shortcut? Never realized how much I used it till it was gone.
