This should be pushed. It's a good moment for Firefox to get back marketshare, it's been niche for a while now.

Never had an issue blocking youtube ads on firefox. I forget it has ads until I use someone elses and damn are the ads obnoxious. I don't know how people stand it.

Well, they’re starting to restrict ways adblockers can work now, within Chrome/Chromium/Edge/other derivatives.
Can’t prevent using an adblocking dns, thought.
https://alternate-dns.com/ (setup instructions, they do have mostly US-based servers so not great for privacy but generally a step up from rando public wi-fi dns, might be slightly faster)
https://adguard-dns.io/en/public-dns.html (based in Cyprus 🇨🇾, not in Amerikkka, and has an encrypted dns option for more privacy)
A pi-hole can be great at home, but connecting to public Wi-Fi these addresses are easy to add as manual dns in the connection options. I copy the dns addresses to a note on my phone and copy them When making new connections. Also add them to family routers when doing tech support as it prevents malware addresses and I get fewer house calls.

Agreed on all counts. If uBlock origin misses anything, or other elements need to be banished, it’s a right-click away.
It’s like that gif of Times Square without the advertising.

I got a few months of youtube premium free and it's so amazing not to have ads and to be able to listen to music with my phone screen off. The people responsible for the version with ads should be redacted.

didnt you literally use to be able to listen to a video playing in the background via youtube with the phones' screen off? i swear i used to constantly listen to entire albums of music on a shitty android with the screen off and basically not having to deal with the nightmare that is getting the fucking video skipped/paused/whatever while its floating around my backpack. i fucking HATE this trend of INTRODUCING problems to a service just to charge the end user to remove them. BIGGEST fucking scam of all time i fucking hate it

i didnt mind ads too much before becoming a communist but now seeing as its obviously all pretty much only driven by infinite fucking growth and profit obsessed :brainworms: havers and not for "legitimate" need for profit to sustain a service i literally cant stand seeing them now

I've found that on FF on Android, if I boot a song up on yt, then switch tabs so that tab is in the background, then lock my screen, I can play the background tab from the audio menu on the lockscreen

              As with everything android, ymmv

I know this is still giving money to Google, but I bought YouTube Premium for $1/month by setting my billing address to a random place in Argentina during checkout. I'm sure it breaks the TOS but it's been good for like a year, no ads.

In what way? I figured it's basically the same as using an ad blocker. Sorry granny :deeper-sadness:

There's no difference in legality or morality than if you just used an ad blocker like the rest of us lol

Edit: Oh wait I forgot that some people watch YT on their phones lmao

I would use an adblocker but there's no way to block ads when watching from a TV or phone, even with my pihole setup. I would rather not root my phone.

I have that already with the pihole but unfortunately Google is smart enough to work around it. The video content is served from the same domain as the ads which makes the DNS blocker ineffective for YouTube. And in general it seems like there are technology changes on the horizon for DNS that might make DNS filtering impossible.

idk what to tell you, works for me perfectly. adguard dns sucks though i wouldnt recommend it, a lot of addresses are gated behind a paywall. i dont have any ads on any app on my phone, zero rooting or piracy

Interesting, I'll look into adguard, maybe they've figured something out or have an additional filter list I need to add

i'll load mine up and find the list i liked though i cant remember which one explicitly stopped it from happening it took a lot of tinkering
