a straw purchase is buying a gun with the intention to give/sell it to another person, presumably one who can't pass the mandated background check
it's already punishable by up to ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine
Is this on a federal level?
Pretty sure straw purchases and gun trafficking are already crimes.
I also cant imagine that the "boyfriend loophole" is much different from the "gunshow loop hole", being that private sales or transfers are not mandated to go through an FFL and a background check in some states.
Edit: Looked it up and the boyfriend loophole is actually that federal laws prohibit someone thats subject to a protective order or has been sentenced for misdemeanor domestic violence from owning a firearm, but only if they are cohabitants or spouses, not in a dating situation.
This actually sounds like a good change when you understand what they are talking about through the obfuscation.
lol, all this big talk and all they came up with is the Metapod approach :shocked-pikachu:
"creates criminal penalties for straw purchases and gun trafficking"
those were already illegal things with criminal consequences, what the fuck kind of pretend accomplishment is this
