Oh I completely agree, but killing Blue Hawk and a terse apology to Hughie doesn’t come close to making up for what he did.
The crippling of his brother is what sets A-Train on a new arc. That's the radicalizing moment that leads him to kill Blue Hawk. The apology to Hughie is more symbolic, indicating that he understands the damage he inflicted so casually in the first episode. And the adoption of The Boys' methods indicates that he's come around to their point of view.
Had he died killing Blue Hawk it wouldn’t have meant nearly as much.
It would have wrapped up his plotline. But I agree, it would have been an under-served character arc. Now I guess they get to run A-Train through the criminal justice system? That could be fun.
And yes I do think it’s cool how his storyline parallels Hughie’s. He started off powertripping and addicted to V, then later became radicalized by a supe hurting someone he loves. Hughie kind of went in the opposite direction, though clearly they’re both going to wind up doing the right thing at the end.
I don't know. This show doesn't seem like the type that does Happily Ever After. Hughie (and Butcher) could absolutely be corrupted by power and turn into just another soulless Super that MM has to hunt down. But I definitely appreciate the inversion of their story arcs. Its a fun narrative tool.
Well at this point their brains will be turned into swiss cheese. My money is on Butcher doing the noble sacrifice bit to make up for Lenny and Hughie.
They have 1 or 2 more doses each before they die from brain damage.
