I get it, a lot of us like to get HEATED sometimes, myself definitely included. You should go through periodically and unblock other Hexbears though unless you still remember why you blocked them and are still mad about it, or if you think they're actively harming you with their posts (in which case you should report them so they get banned).

Give folks chances to learn and grow once you've cooled off and once they have cooled off and try the unblock function once in a while.

Just a PSA to help keep the community a community; we're too small to be blocking each other permanently all the time. Blocks are useful for sure, I've got a few folks blocked myself, but once everyone has cooled off and the fight is a distant memory, give the unblock feature a try too.

I only currently have one account block and every time someone defends the user behind that account, which is always, I block all of those people too because it's funny.

But then I go and unblock them eventually. Except that one user. I'll block that user eternally.

But other than said user...yeah I usually don't need to block someone because if someone is being that bad mods handle them quick.

Anyway if anyone wants to catch a block my list is fresh today so I'm happy to add.

We are not too small to be blocking people. In fact, I'd say we're too small to NOT be blocking people because you will run into them like every week. And the toxicity of disliking someone and not staying away from them is also Very Bad for community vibes.

Lastly, you should be making a new account and leaving your old one behind at least once a year for opsec reasons. This will reset your block list unless you take the time to recreate it on the new account.

absolutely fucking not. it only takes a few annoying posters to make a site this small absolutely unusable. the block feature is literally the best thing that's ever happened to hexbear

It would be nice to have a temporary block in the same way mods have a temporary ban.

I have one blocked person and it's because they told me to grow up or something over just incredibly stupid internet shit. Like I'm just giving my opinion dude. Idk It was a bad day and I didn't appreciate the disrespect and hostility, so fuck off you're still blocked whoever you are

The one person I had blocked was a pretty prolific poster (says 3.47K comments since last January) and apparently she was banned (probably four months ago) and now I'm really curious why. I never actually interacted with her, but she joined lemmygrad like three years ago. Back then, there weren't a lot of posts on lemmy and I got a bit annoyed by how she found a way to turn so many threads into arguments, and was such a prolific poster in doing that. I ditched lemmygrad like a month or two after genzedong got banned from reddit because it went from a really chill place where I was learning stuff to every thread is a hostile argument and visiting was making my mental health worse even if I'm not involved in the arguments myself. I had a very quick trigger finger when I saw her username come to hexbear.
