Half their team are lesbian or bisexual. A few years ago the headline would be about how disgraceful that is, but now they're happy that these women were born women and aren't trans. Daily Mail is fucking scum.

Yeah, you can't convince me the average Daily Mail reader even considers women's football a real sport, much less watches it

I've heard so much sneering at women's hockey and football from Finnish people throughout my life, I can't imagine the Brits are different

Also, that other headline about banning two for one meal deals is the most British thing I've ever seen after transphobia. "We've completely fucked everything and the cost of living is going through the roof- better prevent the poors from buying crisps"

In a society which sexualises female bodies from an increasingly young age, sport is one of the few ways girls can enjoy their physicality without being objectified by lechers.

      :fidel-wut:

I wonder how many ‘tomboys’ will now be stopped from taking the journey to the surgeon’s scalpel, searching for a way to excise their shameful femininity, now that femininity has shown us such a bold new way of being?

      :body-without-sex-organs:

Though, on paper, the situation of women lucky enough to live in the West should be one of unparalleled freedom and equality, it often feels that woke misogyny is sending us backwards.

      :capitalist-woke:

Society to trans men: how about instead of becoming a man you just play some football. Close enough, right?

This is straight up transphobia from the evangelical Christian playbook. They literally think no one in the world is actually trans, just that there are teens who are "tricked" into wanting to be trans. This is where the "groomer" bullshit comes in.

In the US, back in the 90s and 00s the chuds hated the emergence of women's sports. I can remember how dismissive of the WNBA people were. I remember all those articles written about how a men's sport like wrestling was suffering because there had to be an equal number of men's and women's sports in schools. Chuds hated and still hate the idea of women in sports. They just think they've found a cudgel to beat trans folks with.

I'm not gonna make actionable threats about Rupert Murdoch, a cheese grater and a slow-burning sulfur fire. I'm not gonna make actionable threats about Julie Burchill and a French cigar cutting machine painted in vivid blue, pink and white.

BTW, in its only good move since forever, the DFB (German football federation) announced recently that German women's football is open to trans and nonbinary athletes. So in the next world cup, it's entirely possible that :england-cool: will have to compete against a German team that includes trans women. The entire Daily Mail would piss itself with rage.

hum, I hope that all of this manufactured controversy at least raises the profile of women's sports. kind of ironic that there could be better-paying contracts for transfem athletes once the terfs are inevitably buried, as a result of them so loudly fighting to the bitter end

Any team that plays england has a biological advantage, by not being bri’ish with salty gammon blood

do you think it would help if transmascs started cleaning up shop at "women's" sporting events, or would that just lead to more issues?

I've thought about this, but ultimately, no. I need to remember that you can't reason with fascists.

I wonder if Julie Burchill just has one article written and change a couple of key words like madlibs.

Being a columnist seems like the easiest job in the world.

    Fuck the Daily Heil.

On a more positive note, if I was a football/soccer manager I would want my team to consist of eleven clones of Chloe Kelly, the pure shithousery by the corner flag, riling the opposition up, getting the fans on your side, scoring the winning goal, the "fucking get in!" at the end of the game, lmao. Who needs technical ability and perfect passing when you have that haha.

Jose Mourinho and Diego Simeone must have had tears in their eyes watching that perfect "anti football" to close out the game.
