Most people who said they voted to defund the library Tuesday, said they didn’t believe it would close.

    :honk-enraged:

Actual cognitive deficiency on display here. Maybe the redditors were right all along and that's what will finally take down America.

Literally just expect public services to exist perpetually no matter how much their performative cruelty has tangible consequences

Look, when I voted for Trump to deport all those Mexicans, I didn't think they'd deport our honest neighbor

Not kidding, you can find those kind of takes near verbatim, reactionaries can be this incredibly stupid

Also the absolute galaxy brain take; yes I voted for this to harm this institution, but I don't think it will really. I'm guessing it just goes back to 'owning' liberals

          here is that story: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2017/04/04/the-last-ditch-effort-to-save-a-trump-voters-husband-from-deportation/

          here is another: https://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-trump-voter-immigration-family-separation-georgia-20190519-htmlstory.html

He knew Trump planned to get tough on immigration — building a wall and deporting drug dealers, rapists and killers. He never imagined anyone would consider his sweet stay-at-home wife a “bad hombre.”

I legitimately don't understand people like this. How can someone be this bad at thinking and still manage to breathe?

Americans, at least under the current status quo, will never do book burnings. They're too genera savvy for that -- it plays as an obvious Bad Thing to camera.

But they won't bat an eye at this. This is democracy, as far as they're concerned.

Somebody posted a video here in the past year of a church-organized book burning event (they were burning textbooks because gay panic or something). The video was someone going there with a bible, walking up to the circle of people, announcing he was going to throw a book full of incest, murder, rape, and genocide into the fire, the crowd cheering, then he confirms it and adds that oh yeah this is a bible, tosses it in, then walks out while continuing to shout at the crowd who are shouting and screaming at him, pursuing him but keeping their distance.

So anyway, Americans will definitely do book burnings.

I remember like 4 years ago we were all discussing if Qanon would become mainstream conservative thought. I guess we got there and this is how it looks. It's become a background radiation to fall into. I've had people mention this kind of stuff to me, about cabals doing grooming, kidnapping, and will even mention adrenochrome and I'll ask "Like Q?" and the response is always "What's Q?"

One of my family members even, was telling me there's a secret Republican network to fight Satanist pedophiles, had never heard of Qanon, never even seen twitter before. This stuff spread fast.

"okay groomer" fits too well into the current zoomer/boomer/doomer/coomer etc. meme for it to not be workshopped.

It's not even a book in the kids section. They'll destroy the library over a book their kids would never even read
