It's like this with everything now. Every last thing has its own internet community, and its all ready for you to make it part of your identity.

I think we could all agree that cheating on your person of spouse is bad. However, this type of technology is spreading to more aspects of our daily lives, and eventually most new cars will have some version of it, and will probably be used by reactionary parents to make sure their children aren't going to places like Not Church.

In North Korea, cities are designed to be completely unwalkable so that the only way to get anywhere is to use transportation that tracks all the places you go and gives that data to the government

    • SoyViking [he/him]
      ·

And the data will be willingly shared with governments to do police state stuff with. The governments will pinky-promise only to use it to catch the bad guys though so there's nothing to worry about.

      "So... I'm thinkin'. What if it's a sci-fi story—"

      "Sci-fi?"

Christopher plows ahead. "Science fiction, Paulie. And your car always knows where you are? Maybe? So that means your wife and your goomah might know too."

"That's not science fiction. That is a horror movie," Tony says.

Paulie lectures Christopher "Stick to what's important. Your job. Not a dumb story about something that will never happen."

Silvio "I saw this documentary thing few months ago. Technology is improving fast. Very fast. The story could be speculative fiction even. That car thing could happen in our lifetimes. Providing that... You know... We live to old age."

Christopher "See - Silvio thinks it could work."

Paulie - "Documentaries? Speculative fiction? What is this NYU? This is the Bing. Heh-heh-heh-heh."

"It's a horror movie - is what it is," Tony says a little too loudly to be sotto voce.

I wouldn't be surprised if the venn diagram of Tesla owner and adulterer was a circle. Also, just tell your partner you want to fuck other people. Don't tell reddit.

oh what was that, you didn't think about if you want to be poly before marrying somebody because your dumb cishetnormative ass only knows one way to do relationships and you've absorbed that entirely through watching movies and never reflecting once on what you want from other people, sorry, my bad.

    straights lol

Imagine being such a crowd following nerd that you can't even cheat on your spouse without going to a nerd support forum for advice. These people do absolutely no thinking for themselves.

0% chance this person has a threat model that necessitates not being tracked in their car. That said, most modern cars have similar tracking abilities and simply don’t expose them via an app.

Edit: I didn’t catch that it was in r/adultery. Good lord.

I'd like an electric car (no trains here, roads too rough to cycle) but this sort of thing puts me off. Can I not buy a dumb electric car anywhere?

USA went and banned import of the cheap chinese EVs so your only options now are $70k SUVs and the elon bazinga-mobile lineup

Plug-in hybrids are really good! You can likely do 90% of your driving electrically and still have a long range when you need it, and they're cheaper than full EVs.

The problem is all new cars are becoming like this, not just electric ones.

You can probably just disable all connectivity settings. Even bluetooth connection will require you to agree to some bullshit before using, so you may even need to get a separate bluetooth device or connect it with a wire

There are devices installed in practically all cars that monitor your driving conditions that are retrieved by cops. Im not sure how you disable those without disabling your entire car. Essentially it's a black box like the ones on planes.

You can convert an old ICE car for like $10k-$20k. Won't have as much range, but at least it won't be an iPad on wheels.

Basically what I'm saying is to buy a car with a dead engine, and ship it off to a company to convert it to an EV.

There are a lot of cars I like but they're impossible to get with sub-200,000 miles, so I've been strongly considering this route.

yeah there's not much unless you can build one DIY for your youtube channel.

there are fat tire e bikes with like 2kw motors and 60 volt batteries that might stand up to your roads. maybe a golf cart.

I'm pretty sure you can still like not pair it to your phone and just drive the thing, I don't think any absolutely require you to use your phone, you just maybe lose out on some infotainment features.
