Resources For Understanding The War Beyond The Bulletins

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map, who is an independent youtuber with a mostly neutral viewpoint.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have good analysis (though also a couple bad takes here and there)

Understanding War and the Saker: neo-conservative sources but their reporting of the war (so far) seems to line up with reality better than most liberal sources.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict and, unlike most western analysts, has some degree of understanding on how war works. He is a reactionary, however.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent journalist reporting in the Ukrainian warzones.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Kind of interesting video from "Civ Div", a guy who fought with the YPG and then went to Ukraine to fight for the fascists. He has another video where he talks about why people do this and he says he used to do it as a war tourist just looking for a fight but he doesn't do that any more. Few days later he puts out the linked video and it sure does sound like he's still just a war tourist looking to get into a firefight. Empty head, no theory, just a doofus trained up by the US military and wandering the planet looking for opportunities to shoot people.

One of his go-pro videos went viral a while back, it was just him and a squad running into a residential building while under fire and then running back out of it

I think that's probably the "mission" he mentions in this video that got him kicked out of one unit. Apparently he and his battle buddies weren't ordered to do it, they just went with some guy that rolled up saying they needed to do a mission. He also describes some extreme war tourism shit where he's able to just bounce around to any unit he wants basically.

I wonder why Ukraine isn’t winning this war with such stunning command and control as this

He also describes unit hopping at least once because of "problems with command", ie, either poor officers in charge or officers in charge who didn't want some american cowboys doing rambo shit like they're in a movie

I heard American mercenaries complaining about how the Ukrainian troops lack an “offensive mentality”. They are frustrated that they are just sitting back in fortified positions and not making maneuvers and strikes.

What they don’t realize is all of the aggressive and brave Ukrainian troops had their “offensive mentalities” destroyed by Russian artillery fire and turned into mist. The only ones still surviving have a “defensive mentality” - they refuse to advance or attack or leave their bunkers

Hmm yes I do enjoy not dying to a howitzer shell I think I will opt not to charge across an open field today.

It's really funny when 'Barry' has a more accurate idea of how U.S. marines operate than like 99% of shows and it is presented as a satire.

Shockingly, the guys on the defense are using defensive tactics.

Sitting in a bunker while you get blown to hell by artillery is a slow attrition loss 100% of the time

I mean, at some point you have to counter attack, yes. But if you can't muster the forces for a broad offensive most troops, most places, should sit in their bunkers and hopefully degrade the enemy over time.

Ukraine are a bunch of Nazis and Zelensky is fucking up their strategy with a ludicrous Kherson offensive. But they're not dumb. They've conducted this war fairly well given the constraints.

Will still lose though, they just don't have the resources.

I’m not talking about Kherson, the mercenaries are technically right - the defenders would do a lot more damage with quick recon strikes and fast moving small squads.

He just says that so nonchalantly like it’s a normal thing to go to wartorn nations and terrorize civilians with roving goon squads

Really makes you wonder what he was doing for the YPG

Everyone in his squad all left at the same time, all for different “reasons”. None willing to admit the real unifying reason, that Ukraine is losing and about to collapse and they don’t want to die or be trialed as war criminals.

Pretty funny that an ex-US soldier is debilitated from doing more imperialism by how much shit they inhaled from Iraqi burn pits. Comrade US army exposing all their war pigs to fumes that destroy their bodies and stop them from committing more war crimes

lol yeah, the burn pits stuff was just admitted and suddenly he's got a debilitating injury from the burn pits that requires him to leave ground zero :thinking-about-it:

Only problem with the burn pits is that they didn't stick a few of their imperialist goons inside them too.
