Resources For Understanding The War Beyond The Bulletins

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map, who is an independent youtuber with a mostly neutral viewpoint.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have good analysis (though also a couple bad takes here and there)

Understanding War and the Saker: neo-conservative sources but their reporting of the war (so far) seems to line up with reality better than most liberal sources.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent journalist reporting in the Ukrainian warzones.

Latvia refused to pay for Russian gas in rubles and had their deliveries stopped. Now, just eight days later, they have agreed to pay in rubles to have the tap turned back on.

Reckon it's some kind of post-superpower delusion? The UK is also a small dog yapping in the post-empire rubble but at least they have nukes. Though the post-Soviet countries in the Middle East don't seem to share that delusion. Maybe just being in Europe (and the European Union) does that to a mfer.

Some mixture of white supremacy, post-imperial delusions of grandeur and nationalist exceptionalism combined with a proto-fascist sentiment of having been cheated out of their rightful place in the sun that they are now claiming.

Want an update on how France is doing ? beyond extreme drought and water shortages in almost the entirety of the country, historically bad harvests, horrible heatwaves, and the general awfulness of living in a pre-apocalyptic dystopia, we're also like everyone facing huge amounts of underpaid people quitting and general abused-worker shortages; three measures of note from our newly re-elected president recently:

    • They will bring the cops reservist civilian forces from 5k people to 30k in a matter of months. We're talking the state arming citizens and giving them a uniform, letting them patrol in public, after a ten days "training" period. That's not hyperbole, it's actually 10 days. Picture of one of the training sessions here. The government's afraid, I think - the Yellow Vests happened when things were going relatively smoothly. Upcoming soon is the period when social movements usually start to pick up again.

    • Given nursery workers are in dire shortage, they're dropping training requirements for those jobs drastically. In some case, we're talking recruiting people without any related qualifications in nurseries.

    • There's a thing in France, the RSA. In theory it might look like a basic income, except far more shitty: you get it, OK, but it's mostly not enough to live by except in edge cases (usually it'll mean at the very least surviving, not living, and going to food banks); they also inspect your bank statements to detect any "revenue", including friends lending you money, to deduce the amount from it. It's what you can get, in theory indefinitely, when your unemployment runs out. Now they're talking about making recipients have to work for free in order to keep getting it. No kidding.

    So, yea :yea:

    :macron: :france-cool:

Edit: I just realized this isn't the megathread, apologies; I'll delete if required.

I love those bulletins from OP so much. They have overtaken @Dirt_Owl's posts for me as "best content on the website" for a while now (sorry, Dirt_Owl). Though if going back a bit more I also really liked the Tao Te Ching posts by, I think, @Leon_Grotsky.

I should probably post more. Mostly I comment.

Want an update on how France is doing ?

Yes, I do! And that's just the kind of thing this thread is for. It fits here much better than it would in the regular megathread imo. Like anaesidemus said, it's news. Also, the other megathread moves fast and I think most people only read the most recent bits of it. Here (at least this is the case for me) the tendency is to actually go through it as one might a newspaper.

In fact I hope you post more like this here in the future, as I would like to be kept informed what is happening in France by a comrade who is actually there. Thank you for posting this info, concerning as it is.

10 days is not enough to form any cohesion with your unit let alone "for the cause". They'll have some real sadists staying aboard but almost everyone else is gonna quit or do their job half-assed as soon as French riots start.

Cold hard proof of Lockheed Martin system missiles being used to shell the ZNPP

One shell landed within 10 meter of the nuclear waste storage facility.

This is a nuclear attack on Russia and Ukraine by America in my opinion, and Russia would be justified to strike an American base directly. Syria would be a good place to start since their foothold there is weak and they have no legal justification for being there.

Edit: to expand on this, if Turkey agrees to stay out of it and stop attacking Assad then USA can easily be swept out of Syria and their oil looting convoys intercepted. Russia and Turkey have been shaking a lot of hand lately economically and diplomatically. Iran, Assad, Russia combined can easily defeat the US and it’s proxy forces in Syria, especially after Trump pulled most of them and cut off FSA funding. If Turkey and Turkish backed militants chill for a while they can all push out the US.

Hot take but China is lowkey trash at doing propaganda, at least in the English language

Seriously? all they can muster is paying some random white person to go on an obviously guided tour of Xinjiang?

a bunch of Tankies on Twitter do a better job debunking that Uyghur stuff than the entire propaganda wing of the Communist Party of China

Not one western media article headline has stated clearly and unequivocally that Ukraine has been shelling the ZNPP.

One of the closest moments humanity has reached to nuclear war in our history and it’s barely being reported, and it’s being openly distorted and fabricated in front of our eyes.

Russia has notified the US that it has temporarily withdrawn its military facilities from inspections under the START treaty. Russia explains this move as a reaction to the Washington regime de facto depriving Russia of the right to make inspections in the US.

The world just got a bit more dangerous. We're returning to the happy fun times of 1980's nuclear scare.

Most Ukraine aid is a ‘scam’ – US lawmaker RT

Republican lawmakers are feeling vindicated for opposing a $40 billion Ukraine aid package after a CBS News report showed that only 30% of the Western weapons flooding into the country are actually making it to the front lines in Kiev’s conflict with Russia.

“This [is] one of the reasons I voted ‘no,’” US Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) said on Twitter in a retweet of the CBS News post. Greene was among 57 House Republicans who voted against the massive aid bill, which passed overwhelmingly in May with the support of all Democrats and most GOP lawmakers. Eleven Republicans opposed the bill in the Senate, where it passed by an 86-11 margin.

The CBS story noted that with nearly $60 billion in US and Western European aid approved for Ukraine since Russia’s military offensive began in February, most of the weaponry has failed to get through to Ukrainian fighters. Getting weapons to the troops involves navigating a complex network of “power lords, oligarchs [and] political players,” the outlet cited Lithuanian aid group founder Jonas Ohman as saying. Amnesty International senior crisis adviser Donatella Rovera told CBS that “there is really no information” on where the weapons are going.

Representative Lauren Boebert (R-Colorado) said such scrutiny had been dismissed prior to the CBS report. “How many people were called Russian bots for saying this exact same thing since March? Now, when CBS says it, it’s perfectly fine. Whatever the case, glad the facts are out now. The majority of the Ukraine aid is a scam.”

I think Trump was a major spanner in the works but even he couldn't do it overly much. I don't think a second term Trump would be nearly as much as an obstacle.

I do wonder what a Russia-Ukraine war looks like with Trump in charge.

I don’t think the war happens under Trump. I think Trump does a big bluff and then backs down in a way that lets both save face, getting Ukraine to honor Minsk and affirm neutrality.

Finland and Estonia urge EU to stop issuing tourist visas to Russians (https://www.ft.com/content/33173b4e-aa75-46b6-ae6b-83c2591c1c10)

“Stop issuing tourist visas to Russians,” Kaja Kallas, Estonia’s prime minister, wrote on Twitter on Tuesday. “Visiting Europe is a privilege, not a human right. Air travel from Russia is shut down. It means while Schengen countries issue visas, neighbours to Russia carry the burden (Finland, Estonia, Latvia — sole access points).”

Sanna Marin, Finland’s prime minister, told state broadcaster Yle: “It’s not right that at the same time as Russia is waging an aggressive, brutal war of aggression in Europe, Russians can live a normal life, travel in Europe, be tourists. It’s not right.”

What a joke, lol. I wonder if they feel the same about America or Israel (or any other country in the imperial core).

Fucking ridiculous, obviously they only do this because they ran out of other ways to #StandWithUkraine. Just fabricating a problem by creating a false choice between happy vacationing Russians at the expense of Ukrainians.

And calling it a touristic visa only makes the conflation worse! Tourist visas go to people other than tourists, it's basically a catch-all when you don't have a better official reason. Yuri living in Karelia on the wrong side of the border wouldn't be able to visit his brother Vanya in Lappeenranta, since there's no better visa to apply for. His fault for having the wrong citizenship.

    🇷🇺 #Russia

The Russian Federation has announced through diplomatic channels to the USA that they are withdrawing from the START treaty.

START is the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, which aim(ed) to limit the amount of nuclear weapons both Russia and the USA could hold, and deploy.
