I've seen another instance of a comment discussing recipes in the mega getting removed because it doesn't go "CW: meat". This has not been an established rule of the site and shouldn't be a requirement.

The rule to nsfw and use content warnings for images of flesh was instated in the midst/wake of the vegan struggle session. It was presented as a fair measure, specifically for the food comm, to give people who might view such images as effectively gore the option to not see it. This has spread to requiring the blurring of ice cream site-wide and now apparently includes mentioning fried chicken. This is absolutely not in line with the purpose of the original policy and does not, in fact, promote the general welfare of the site.

Just get use to admins bending over backwards for vegans here. I sort of stopped caring when they starting comparing transphobia that gets people like me killed to anti-veganism. After that seeing the human chattel slavery comparisons I knew this site was beyond parody when it came to the subject. I just sort of avoid talking about food because you never know when the next im-vegan is gonna get pissed that you linked something with milk powder in it.

Nah going to the vegan comm and linking a vegan enby's view on this is actually messed up. You're just being needlessly shitty

Trans people can be shitty too. How amazing is that?

EDIT: And yes I am calling the OP out in my thread a shitty person just like you are doing me. In case that point flies over your head.

Taking another trans person being vulnerable and weaponizing it is legitimately shitty and does not contradict what I'm calling you out on

Also just a friendly note to other commenters: ask yourself whether you actually want to restart the vegan struggle session because so far most of these posts look like bait.

Go ahead, reinvite Reddit mods to your own site after they chased off your actual coders. The rest of the fediverse is out there. Just because some of them are reactionaries doesn't change that you break your own site more than any instance, including Mastodons. OP is raising a serious issue, you are the one baiting.

Every unnecessary moderation policy makes it harder to police reactionaries, spam, and thing unmentionable.

Actually I'm being wildly unfair vs lemmy.world which is banning VPNs, but let's not split hairs. Every Lemmy seems to attract the most annoying people alive.

I don’t see why showing a bit of kindness to people that don’t want to see meat or animal byproducts is an issue. Is it really that big of a problem? It’s not like it’s a ton of effort on posters’ parts.

It's a bit wild to me that talking about fried chicken is worthy of removal, but posting that disfigured pig shitting on itself is fine.

go-ahead start another vegan struggle session. Do it. You guys can't even be happy with the compromise option, so go ahead and tear the site apart again.

Tbh I thought the meat cws were some kind intervention being made by vegans to make a point. Possibly even a joke in some cases. didn't know they were a rule or being enforced.

I wasn't on the site for the vegan struggle session so don't have that context.

Constructive criticism: text screencaps are better if you narrow the window first because that is impossible to read on mobile.

My recollection is that the admin post announcing these kinds of rules said that non-vegan food posts had to have CWs. This was part of the same announcement that Hexbear was officially a vegan instance by default.

The loathesome mods made me CW this image lest I offend the ancient Egyptian cabal that runs this site.

My recollection is that the general range of what content needs to be CW'd has been basically the same since the start, while meat absolutely was the stuff that got the most focus, as far as I remember dairy was included pretty much right away, and there was plenty of discussion about the dairy industry alongside meat industry during those times.

That doesnt really affect wether or not you disagree with the overall policy, but I dont think it has been a slippery slope at all really, and I disagree with presenting it like that.

Kinda weird how none of my comments trying to help workshop the ideas got removed. Just as much of a lack of CW. Seems a bit arbitrary tbh.

Talking about cooking an abused and eventually murdered corpse seems like the kind of thing to cw imo

Well, I said what I wanted to say and this is not going anywhere good. (Why did I think it would be any different this time?)
