Any time I search something on the internet there is at least one result from Quora that is fash as fuck. Like every top answer is always some anti-communist or bio truth shit. Why are they like this?
I knew a coworker who was trying hard to establish a personality on that site. I am pretty sure it's filled with people who answer questions not to be correct, but to play the Quora algorithm. Upvote-chasing psychology mixed with slot machine psychology. So people just give answers that sound like TED talks, except they have no idea what they're talking about.
Unfortunately, by default, people's lay understanding is the hegemonic explanation for everything which comes out fashy.

And when it's not fash (it's a little hard to insert fascism into answers about smooth manifolds [math stuff]), it's utterly useless. I've never had a quora post be anything except obviously wrong.

Most insane Nazis are on there because of very lax moderation, someone defending Joseph Mengele of all people.
they absorbed the unwashed masses after the demise of yahoo answers. and the kind of people who hang out in what's become maybe the lowest-SNR backwater of the whole internet, answering questions to help some tech company make its billions, are people who don't really know anything at all but who still get a dopamine rush out of looking knowledgeable. so they just regurgitate whatever hegemonic discourse they've heard, and make it sound as authoritative as possible. hyper-individualism and bigotry are a perfect fit for quora because they're very mainstream and obvious while letting one put on airs of being smarter than the sheeple or whatever.
Because the default hegemony in the west is fash apologia. Sadly, The Left cedes much of the online spaces to it or is disorganized enough not to make a difference.
You just flat out cannot trust fact-checkers. Part of me thinks that’s kind of the point, we’re all drowning in information but nobody knows for sure what’s true.
While you are right, Quora has also been the only place that I can find a non-anti-communist description of what Mao's struggle sessions were intended for.
