It's a special election, so she'll get a few months in office and then have to run again in November

Peltola, who is Yup’ik and turned 49 on Wednesday, will become the first Alaska Native to serve in the House

    I think this is neat

She will be the first Democrat to hold the seat since the late U.S. Rep. Nick Begich, who was seeking reelection in 1972 when his plane disappeared. Begich was later declared dead and Young in 1973 was elected to the seat.

Peltola ran as a coalition builder while her two Republican opponents — Palin and Begich’s grandson, also named Nick Begich — at times went after each other. Palin also railed against the ranked voting system, which was instituted by Alaska voters.

That entire plane crash is very 👁️ . There was another senator in the plane named Hale Boggs who was a) on the Warren Commission which investigated the JFK assassination and b) gave a speech on the floor of the house decrying the power the FBI and Hoover had at the time. And then he perished in an air crash and his body was never found...

The Democrats have now over-performed Biden's 2020 performance in all 6 special elections post-Dobbs in what's supposed to be a red-wave year. Are the Republicans really going to blow what should have been a lay-up midterms?

Doubt that'll be the lesson they learn from having wins handed to them for not trying

Special elections not taking place on election day are different, a lot less people vote in them. I wouldn't say their results are indicative of much.

I'm still disappointed Santa Claus didn't make it past the primary.
