I only just started, but for all my previous hesitation, so far I'm fairly pleased. It isn't comparable with the original movie trilogy, but as a show it's entertaining and hasn't put me off yet.

Some people asked if I had watched it before, and now I have, somewhat. Galadriel's characterization (and both actresses playing her) have carried the role well. It's nice to have a story where not everyone left alive is a smirking sociopath, but that's just my subjective preference there.

It may yet disappoint me, but so far so good. The halfling predecessors were my favorite worldbuilding feature so far.

Call me crazy, but I wonder if Musk is lending his voice to the culture war aspect of this show to juice its visibility as a favor to Bezos. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if the entire controversy around the show including Black people and powerful women is inorganic and designed to get people talking about it.

lol no, it's definitely organic. huge parts of the tolkien fandom are incredibly racist.

they may have signal boosted it, but it's organic.

The inorganic part would be the executives telling the writers to include diversity to drive up controversy and make headlines. Its exactly what the chuds say is happening, ironically

It’s exactly the kind of thing his most rabid fans would want him to say. Gotta remind everyone you’re their thought leader and a powerful avatar in the culture war.
