Musk added this in a later tweet.

Almost every male character so far is a coward, a jerk or both. Only Galadriel is brave, smart and nice.

So it's a slightly different flavor of :frothingfash:

I really like how they pointed out how 20 years is like a couple of months to an elf, while its a massive chunk of time for anyone else

yeah i really liked the conversation, and the guy who is playing Elrond legitimately sounded remorseful. Probably the scene that made me get over how he looked and start enjoying the character

Well, and Galadriel is one of the oldest elves, from the years of the trees. Elrond, in comparison, was born like 1000 years later, well after the trees got ate, and is a half-elf besides (though as a half-elf that chose to be immortal, he is basically considered an elf). So, for the events of the forging of the rings of power, Elrond is about 1000 years old, and Galadriel is almost 2000, so like, they would have somewhat different perspectives on time.

Yeah, she's been searching for Sauron at least 400 years longer than the actual war took. The other elves are right.

Call me crazy, but I wonder if Musk is lending his voice to the culture war aspect of this show to juice its visibility as a favor to Bezos. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if the entire controversy around the show including Black people and powerful women is inorganic and designed to get people talking about it.

lol no, it's definitely organic. huge parts of the tolkien fandom are incredibly racist.

they may have signal boosted it, but it's organic.

The inorganic part would be the executives telling the writers to include diversity to drive up controversy and make headlines. Its exactly what the chuds say is happening, ironically

It’s exactly the kind of thing his most rabid fans would want him to say. Gotta remind everyone you’re their thought leader and a powerful avatar in the culture war.

It's alright so far. I do wish they'd explain lorewise how a single village of people living in the dirt is so diverse though. Headcanoning it as a refugee village

At least with dwarves it can be explained as the whole 'made of stone' thing, also they're cowards for not giving the women huge beards cause in the lore it describes dwarven genders as nearly indistinguishable

Did they give the dwarf women beards like they're supposed to have? If not I'm not interested.

Its certainly pretty. Plenty of effort was put in costumes and set pieces. But after two hour long episodes there's really no reason for me to keep watching beyond just wanting to see more new lotr. Its like mandalorian (sans :baby yoda:) or any of the star wars spin offs. Maybe house of dragons will be the exact same but have a hook in the first ep.

I've only seen the first episode and it was kinda dull tbh. The elf characters felt off to me because of the overly formal stilted way they speak. I know that's what LOTR is about but it just kinda felt weird and I couldn't bring myself to care about any of them. Maybe it gets better but right now it's just kinda alright.

The show is very pretty though.
