Bullying Maine lobstermen is cool and good.
This is a piece I wrote which gets a little into the economics of Maine, in particular its lobster industry. A consumer advocacy group in California recently advised people not to buy Maine lobster due to the industry threatening the very existence of the right whale, and Maine lobstermen—every one of whom is petite bourgeois—reacted like a bunch of crybabies. My piece also makes fun of them relentlessly because they are by far the worst people who have ever walked the Earth.
This account is an alt I'm using because if any of these people find out who I am I will be lynched. As proof, I recently joined the Bug-Eating PMC Karen Caucus at my local DSA.
(This piece is dedicated to lobstermen across Maine, even though none of them can read.)
unnecessary dig at illiterate people. Kinda classist don't you think? Also you literally joined today. Seems strange for this to be the very first sentence you publish to a Communist website.
I think OP already has an account here, he just wants to be extra anonymous for this post.
It might be a little out of like to say someone can't read, but on the other hand if a group of people is rabidly anti-intellectual and anti-education it's not kinda appropriate.
I'm sorry, in the article I distinguish between the petite bourgeois lobstermen who have the difficult-to-procure lobstering licenses on the one hand, and the workers they exploit on the other. I should have clarified. Lobstermen, for the most part, could read (or learn to read) if they wanted to, since they tend to have quite a lot of money, but they choose not to. They are also anti-intellectual and anti-education and would not care in the slightest if all education in the state was either privatized or abolished entirely. Also, I've been with this community since the r/chapotraphouse days, this is just an alt.
So these lobstermen sometimes shoot at each other? :peterson-pill-dinner:
Sometimes the lobsterman ends up nourishing the lobsters he went out to catch and then those lobsters end up on someone's plate.
Counterpoint, Montana ranchers are worse. They're threatening the very existence of wild buffalo.

Remember how in 2020 they arsoned an Indigenous-owned warehouse full of lobster because they were angry?
This wasn't in Maine but if presented the opportunity I could see it happening.
Wow, thanks so much for this post. I really had no idea the extent to which the half-man, half-lobster scourge had spread across Maine.
I might write a followup and have some questions for you in the future. My anger is directed against licensed lobstermen, not the people forced to work for them (by dire economic circumstances and purposeful underdevelopment) like yourself. Thank you for speaking up.
Of course. Cool to see something so close to me being looked at critically through a leftist lense. Keep it up and great writing !
Fucking :gold-communist:, thank you. I loved every word. Clearly you know this place deeply.
Not just the lobstermen, but the lobsterwomen and lobsterchildren too! :jbp:
if you need to make it half butter to make it palatable maybe it shouldn't be food
*potatoes not included
Yeah and every politician here still panders to all 50 of them like they're goddamn children.
I want you to know I'm halfway through reading this essay laughing my ass off, your writing style is hilarious and good. I didn't know anything about Maine lobstermen before this, but having lived in the South for many formative years, this essay still is understandable to me.
This seems awfully condescending and tbh maine lobsterman are not who we should be taking shots at. Blatant misogamy when talking about their wives. Like, really, is this how leftists are going to make progress? Shitting on lobsterman who get up at 4am to do physical labor opposed to hedge fund types. You missed on this imo.
The fact that they are small rather than big businessmen doesn’t make them good.
