Resources For Understanding The War Beyond The Bulletins

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map, who is an independent youtuber with a mostly neutral viewpoint.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have good analysis (though also a couple bad takes here and there)

Understanding War and the Saker: neo-conservative sources but their reporting of the war (so far) seems to line up with reality better than most liberal sources.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict and, unlike most western analysts, has some degree of understanding on how war works. He is a reactionary, however.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent journalist reporting in the Ukrainian warzones.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

How long can the market sustain continued losses. We are going on more than a year with capitalists making very little return on investment. It’s not an outright collapse, but capitalism requires constant growth and this is… the opposite. A consistent and sustained shrinking of the economy

For capitalists it’s almost worse than a recession or collapse. It’s just negative ROI forever, as far as the eye can see. At least with a crash it’s over quickly and you can buy up the dip and hope for a future return and recovery. This is just a never ending decline and slog of losses.

All the smart money is already out of the stock market, and the people who will suffer the most are those with pension funds in it. Many of them could have their retirement funds wiped out or significantly diminished.

The big hedge funds and market makers like Citadel are not though and they make money regardless of whether it goes up or down.

Capitalists will destroy and crash the whole thing if they can make money while doing it and oh yes they are still making a shit ton right now. Just look up the amount of puts(a contract to buy a share at a lower price) buying going on for example.

But yes the Warren Buffet types who make long term investments are also hoping for a crash too so they can buy the bottom.

A put-heavy market environment is zero-sum though, unlike a bull market where every investor (or a majority) can win if the corporations are making profits and paying dividends.

If everyone is doing puts, then it’s just a downward spiral in net market profits and every dollar earned is taken from somewhere else.

It’s like the difference between a growing orchard everyone can get some fruit from, versus a barren orchard that a few people get to chop down for firewood

So the smart ones would sell all their positions?

The last time globalization crashed, we had the long depression. Research 19th century investments in railroads, they will mirror 21st century investments in developing nations.

As I commented elsewhere, puts are a zero-sum and unsustainable strategy intended to weather downturns. If the downturn just keeps going without end then everyone buying puts just causes a downward spiral.

Downward spiral means greater returns on puts, just hedge a bit to lure in exit liquidity.

I meant a downward spiral in net market profitability not where line goes. The more people buy puts the less they return. It only works when a small group is doing it, or when it’s very short term

No matter how you spin it with small sections of investors using the crisis to get rich, the net total effect is the market dying as a mechanism to gain profits

Economies of scale mean larger net worth can be invested more aggressively into puts. Also they are transitioning to remoter capitalism and neofeudalism, when cash becomes illiquid they will own everything.
