I mostly give them a "huh, ok" these days and that seems to set them off the most, especially if they expect you to be one of theirs because you're white. Only tactic you have is to make them feel embarrassed or annoying. I'm surrounded by full on Qanon conspiracy goofs all day and I've gotten decent at getting them to shut the fuck up. One will always try to annoyingly correct me if I say anything about outer space or airplanes or whatever, since he's one of those flat earth guys. He's literally said "um, actually? Space isn't real" before. I just ignore him and continue talking about whatever I was saying, or maybe I give him a "oh, that's cool. yeah."

"Dude it's a Disney cartoon who gives a fuck" also works if they're on one of those types of rants

I just try to be normal and somehow that seems to work to at least make them stop. I have no idea at all how they'd be corrected beyond that outside of mandatory re-education. America deserves a century of humiliation.

Every day I feel lucky to be surrounded by people who laughed at the queens death and tolerate me ranting about communism and the historical victories of communism.

Even the libertarian is basically on my side and for the most part didn't give it any chud vibes beyond "taxes bad" lol

I have only ever met open leftists at events or meetings dedicated to socialist stuff, like protests or volunteer work or whatever. I briefly met a person who said she knew who Marx was and read some of his books, but it turned out she actually meant Kant and confused their names. Met another guy once who said he loved the Soviet Union, but he was also very confused and turns out he meant Israel. I meet a lot of extremely confused people.

Otherwise 99% of people I interact with either do not care or are complete fascist style reactionaries (about a 50/50 split). I think at this point if I met an open commie type in the wild I'd fall to their feet in shock. I'm losing my mind btw

It's weird, I'm solidly in "Trump Country" too. All the owners and shit head suburbanites out here are total zombies, but obviously all the service workers and a decent portion of the sub $100k crowd is really progressive.

Probably because none of them have ever owned a home and have no hopes of owning a home and are just happy when rent is below 50% of their wages.

I'm starting a commie reading group and dispersing Parenti and Lenin amongst the local proles though and telling them to pass the books on when they finish and come to me for more lol

I also ask people weird and personal questions after just meeting them so I've always thought it's more likely that I'm the bizarre one and most people simply don't have an opportunity to say the weirdest things they believe. I'm from Texas if that explains anything

Yes lol, he doesn't know who rothbard is. He doesn't know who Rand is. He's just a 40 year old vet who hates the government because he hates the military. His way of manifesting that is "libertarian" which to him means "fuck the government"

literally never heard anyone talk about that.

tbh i'm generally on the side of the not eating the bug crew though. being forced to eat something different than what youre used to that you think is gross while wealthy and powerful people keep getting to eat the old food is some bullshit.

It’s not hypocrisy, it’s class rule.

Plus bug eating as protein is a bad idea because if the impetus is to produce more protein with fewer resource inputs then any of the much cheaper/less intensive options in diet for a small planet (>50 years ago!) are better.

Everyone eating the bugs only works if it’s collective punishment for transgressions against the earth and that’s stupid.

Or if it’s a way of enforcing class rule by creating additional lifestyle signifiers through literal enforced consumption and that’s not what we want.

I don't know honestly I think a lot of people on this site have a kneejerk reaction to want to disagree with CHUDs no matter what they say because they don't like them.

Like the general metaphorical truth is that the ownership class is going to use neoliberalism to continue turning the crank on the working class ad absurdum, and that's ultimately true. The reason you're having trouble telling them why they're wrong is because they aren't, they just may have a wrong idea about what to do about that.

It's much more rhetorically powerful to not show a desperate need to disagree on every point. Agree where reasonable, and then push the left position like "... and that's why we should be dedicating all our resources to liquidating the ownership class."

A lot of CHUDs are much more radicalizable than libs, because many are at least starting from the position that this is all fucked. But you won't be able to radicalize them if you let them trick you into defending neoliberalism (which is ultimately what they probably think leftists want anyways).

I've eaten food grade crickets before at a brewery, they kinda tasted like a seasoning salt rub. I'd probably eat them again, they're probably healthier than whatever deep-fried double down these reactionaries inhale.

The same way you would break down the contradictory nature of the "bad corp crony capitalism" arguments. Then you'd probably have to come up with some analogous arguments about why eating bugs isn't so bad, how it's a cultural thing, how we already consume bug adjacent organisms (literally eating oyster snot), how some integration of bugs might be necessary in the future, especially the way we're going, and how most Amerikkkan food is fucked presently anyways (and some of it might even be incorporating buggy elements already).

At which point you'll realize Amerikkka is fucked because you probably aren't going to convince many people, if any at all. So you just make petty small talk and hope for a JDPON order

oyster snot grosser than bugs tbh. If they eat shrimp, lobster, or any meat that came out of a factory then they have no reason other than personal weakness not to eat the land bugs.

Some is, like Murex Purple dye (which is from now-endangered shellfish and is almost impossible to get outside of a couple of traditional greek/italian craftspeople) it is prohibitively expensive to make the exact colour using synthetic dyes in a way that is safe for human consumption so it's used in food a lot, and that has revived the fabric industry as well.
