Is porn addiction real? Is "Death Grip" real? I see a lot of people talking about these like they're real thing but I'd always thought they were made up by Catholics and Mormons to shame people out of masturbating. And then "NoFap" formed out of the miasma of religious trauma and poor sexual health education and things just kind of mutated and spread. Any thoughts? Preferably with studies by atheists to back them up?

Porn addiction is real. It would probably fall under the sex addiction diagnosis in DSM IV. Catholics and Mormons are just insane freaks obsessed with bodily fluids and it sucks ass. Consider that a lot of abnormal human behavior is only consider a disorder or a problem when it negatively affects your life. So if you are, say constantly watching porn morning and night, you can't get erect, you sneak away from work and it starts affecting your performance, that can be diagnosed as a disorder. I think Porn is a symptom of an addictive personality more than it being addictive on its own - but the internet and algorithms definitely do not help.

Combine religious trauma and poor sexual health education with shitty terrible porn that's freely available. Where there's zero understanding of consent, foreplay, orgasms, communication. Honestly, it's a LOT to bulwark yourself against the misogynistic aspects and trying to "enjoy" that type of porn.

Pornography is subject to the same hedonic treadmill as anything else, and it's certainly possible to become addicted to it, to become desensitized with overuse, etc.
There's probably something to be said for physical desensitization from repeated, aggressive, uh, cranking, but it's probably only in relatively extreme cases.

There are, of course, many other issues with pornography beyond negative effects on the user.

I will admit I've had an issue with desensitization, but I just took a break and everything returned to normal. It applies to most everything physical or mental. You get diminishing returns and need a break for your body and mind. You can definately get hurt if your let yourself on a hedemonic tread, what ever it is

People can get addicted to anything. Masturbating feels good, so I'm sure some people are addicted to porn. If you've ever cancelled plans because you'd specifically rather stay inside and watch porn, that's probably a problem you should take up with a psychiatrist.

Masturbating too much and too hard can make it hard maintain an erection from the soft parts of people that you normally fuck. It'll go away after a few days of reduced masturbation, not grabbing it so damn hard, or just using lube when you jack off.

"NoFap" is a nazi cult designed to make people feel ashamed of themselves for masturbating.

i thought death grips was a band?

'porn' addiction isn't exactly real, imo. country girls make do, people addicted to 'porn' are the same people who wouldve been habitually cranking it 'analog' before porn existed. not that one couldn't have had a problem with that back then either, but its not essentially about pornography

left concerns about porn are about the conditions of the workers, ethics of distrubution, and harmful/patriarchal attitudes it can reproduce

so what? does the accessibility of masturbatory aids necessitate habits around it be worse?

one could argue the ease might make the process more swift and efficient, and thereby better than squinting at the illustrations in a magazine or reading chapters of an erotic novel.

    So uh

My bf has really calloused hands and it uh, caused some callouses on his uh, yeah. So he stopped and it uh, yeah, is better at doing things. He didn't even really do alone time that much he's just that calloused. Is fun when he grabs you though. So it is possible to lose sensitivity through overworking the skin but it comes back.

But people really blow things out of proportion on this issue. Some of the NoFap people describe it as having super powers or feeling strong or whatever. That's all nonsense for sure, they're just placing their confidence in something silly. Its like saying you are an overconfident sex god when you have yellow shoe laces on. No, Jim, you're just a white guy that gets away with a lot of dumb shit because you're a white guy.

Supposedly if you squeeze your dick too hard it causes it to become desensitized? It never really made much sense to me, your dick is mostly erectile tissue, the only thing that squeezing it should do is force blood out of it and make it squishier.

I used to think I suffered from death grip syndrome until I realized it was actually circumcision associated sensation loss. The foreskin contains nearly all of the fine touch (corpuscular) nerve endings and the glans has the ones that sense heat and pressure. An absence of the former can cause an over reliance on the latter to achieve orgasm.

I don’t even know what death grip is or means, so I can’t say if it’s real. Fill me in?

Edit: nvm I just looked it up and there’s a Wikipedia article lol. Idk, maybe?

I have no evidence of this, but I strongly believe that "death grip" is a way to blame circumcised men for the common difficulty they have with cumming. It's a bit of unintentional victim blaming and deflection.

Yes all real, unfortunately shittily understood for most tho because the only people willing to do (pay for ) the research are either biased Christian psychos or biased porn companies. Capitalism fucks with science yet again.
