Capital has the ability to subsume all critiques into itself. Even those who would critique capital end up reinforcing it instead…

This was always destined, wasn't it? DE was fated to either have its team torn apart by its resounding success, or its success was going to force it into being a commercial product.

This is probably the best outcome if there's never a sequel or goofy Amazon show. DE can exist as it is on its own terms. It's a lightning in a bottle game and it's a miracle it exists in the first place.

Still hurts. Volition [Impossible: Failure] -1 morale

The tweet sort of indicates they might "Ur Quan Masters" up a sequel.

If they ran as a halfway-organized co-op and owned all the IP they would've had a shot.

Fuck. Disco Elysium is my favorite game. I hope the artists make something else eventually

My guess until there is some kind of investigative report on this is that suddenly having a ton of money fucked everything up. Wouldn't be the first time.

It seems like the problem more is that the people that provided the ton of money fucked everything up.

Things sound real bad from the comments there. I mean the deal with Amazon should have been the first clue I suppose.

This shit just fucking sucks. Goddamn. :deeper-sadness:

Also does this mean that DE still exists as an IP that ZA/UM the private company still owns to do with as they please? Worst possible outcome for it if so. Guess I'll just ignore the existence of any adaptations or spinoffs if that's the case.

this is all part of some pointdexter contract that we're not privy to (some companies own 50% of the IP rights with the original author still holding 50% or other such arrangements) although the rumours are the original team didn't "leave the company voluntarily" so my money is on the ghouls running off with everything

Yeah that was unfortunately the impression I got when I saw that the creatives behind DE were fired (though I hope I'm wrong). This is all so ass.

The money people come from a background which says you gotta grab when you can even when it in fact does not make much economic sense.

as if there's any other kind of money people

I think he's referring to a particular type of Post Soviet "You loot and you rob or you're bought" money people who looked at an entire society being stolen for cash and the people left to starve and rot.

And then they went "If I want to live I need to steal better than these guys."

i understand your clarification, but i still content that enrichment by defrauding is not unique to the post soviets, and even in this framing they "learned it" from what the west did to them, insert foucault quote here

0.000% of Communism has been built. Evil child-murdering billionaires still rule the world with a shit-eating grin. All he has managed to do is make himself sad. He is starting to suspect Kras Mazov fucked him over personally with his socio-economic theory. It has, however, made him into a very, very smart boy with something like a university degree in Truth. Instead of building Communism, he now builds a precise model of this grotesque, duplicitous world.
