yes i am very smart

Edit: Not this guy, but I also saw some say that Apple would come out with a charger that was "ten times faster than type c" if it weren't for the regulation, which is really funny bc that would be 2400W minimum, aka more than a North American breaker can even handle

Fascism is never late, nor is it early, it arrives precisely when the treats dry up during a time of imperial decline

apple has been taking hits on the charger thing recently they were also forced to provide charging cables with all their products in brazil, because not doing makes it a "venda casada" it would be like a "married sale" if i translated it directly i am not sure there is a word for this in english, which is pretty much when you buy something and that also forces you to buy another thing so you can actually use that and that is a big no no, sales crime, in the brazillian consumer right's code

It's called tying or product tying in English and it's illegal in the books in the US, but it simply isn't enforced except in some rare high profile suits against Apple or Microsoft.

oh i was searching for a translation and i think the use of "Married" on the portuguese term really messed up my search, but it think the brazilian version is closer to the european version of this as i am reading it now

I bought this beautiful charger and now they’re forcing me to buy a phone or something in order to be able to use it. Horrible

lmao, like that almost works on the law, but the charger still does what is supposed to do even if you don't own something that it charges, like it is still a cable and the use case of it still works, it is about usability you can't sell something that doesn't work, because a cellphone that has no charger is pretty much tech waste, it can't do the basic things a phone should do, like when you buy a cable you know what it does and the expected use case, a charger is still a charger even if you can't use, but a phone that doesn't turn on is pretty much not phone, and as you couldn't sell a phone that doesn't work you can't sell a phone that doesn't work without buying something else, it is really meta as how this works, but the consumer code is generally on the side of the consumer on most stuff so it is fine

Yeah absolutely. A charger without a phone and a charger with a phone plugged-in is about equally as fun - it’s just a damn charger . The same cannot he said for a dead vs alive phone

Lighting doesn't have pins for 3.0 even if they wanted to aifk.

It was meant to be a Band-Aid while usbc was developed, but id suspect that Apple didn't like the public backlash from changing to lightning and has been holding off on another change until absolutely necessary

doesn't matter tbh, hardly anyone connects their phones to transmit info. it's gotten to the point where sticking some sort of file server on android and fetching stuff using wifi is faster than plugging in your phone and relying on mtp. same for iphones, users rely on airdrop instead of itunes.

my knowledge about eletrical stuff is mostly architecture related so this might be a real dumb thought i am having but i think the biggest pro would be unifying all the cables, and if they already did change it on the ipad and even macbooks i think they really should just do it on the iphone too right, or are lighting really that much better?

It’s all physical shape improvements. They’re both serial with extra lanes for power or more tx.

Lightning has a bigger, more robust receptacle that can be relatively safely cleaned out with a toothpick. Usbc has a plastic tongue in the middle where all the (more delicate, thinner) connectors live and requires a thinner tool like a straight pin to clean out. It’s also a more delicate operation because of the plastic tongue in the middle.

Usbc also has all the contacts shrouded from access, which seems like a good idea, but when the v+ pin starts to corrode you can’t just scuff it up with a pocketknife to get your shit charging again. People complain a lot about pin blackening on lightning, but when that happens on usbc the cables just toast.

Oh, lighting cables break before the receptacle does. Everyone also complains about broken lightning cables but I get far more broken receptacles on laptops/phones/tablets than lightning. It should be the reverse, because apple ppl tend to try to get shit fixed that isn’t worth it way more often than everyone else.

Frankly the standard aspect doesn’t matter to me. Both ate available at any gas station, that’s as much of a standard as can exist.

but how will apple innovate?????? hello???? how will there be new innovations??? have you considered the many innovations apple can make that they won't make now because of this????
