Herschel Walker, the Republican nominee for Georgia’s Senate seat who said in July that people aren’t concerned about the state’s six-week abortion ban— reportedly paid for his ex-girlfriend’s abortion. In May, Walker told reporters he wanted to ban abortion without exceptions: “There’s no exception in my mind...Like I say, I believe in life. I believe in life.” He’s also described exceptions for rape, incest, and life of the pregnant person as “excuses.” He joins a list of several Republican politicians outed as urging partners to get abortions or paying for the procedure.
According to the Daily Beast, Walker got a woman pregnant in 2009, told her it was “not the right time” for him to have a baby, urged her to get an abortion, and then reimbursed her for the September 2009 procedure. The woman, who also didn’t want a child, asked the outlet not to identify her out of concerns for her privacy, but also brought the receipts to back up her allegations. Per the Daily Beast:
It's our job as socialists to ensure that the class element of this is not ignored. Libs want to process this as merely culture war hypocrisy. We must always point out that abortion will always be available for the ruling class. The rules they make are to be obeyed by us, not them, and this is how it is under capitalism.
Agreed. To Liberals, the right being full of hypocritical shitbags is just a source of Smug Points which can also act as a pressure release valve for people tired with their bullshit. It's fundamentally in their interests to keep this still within the confines of Culture War squabbling and not on Class.
Okay, Gerry Manderheim is a morally-repugnant ghoul who speaks in bad faith and doesn't follow even an ounce of what he says. Now what? Shouldn't we properly assess adjust our worldview and tactics to properly deal with him since he obviously doesn't care that we know?
Yes absolutely! Liberal culture war gotchas function as a false catharsis, it's all part of an ideology where voting and going to a police-sanctioned
paradeprotest is the height of political action. It also important to remember that reproductive healthcare originally was paired with universal healthcare demands from socialists in the United States.
Once liberals usurped the "abortion issue" away from other reproductive healthcare it made it easier to target.
We need reproductive healthcare rights, not just abortion rights.
