Very slight change of plans: I'll begin the updates next Monday instead of this Friday. So this week will have no updates. Dang. So y'all better post hard enough to make up for it. But not so hard that we get past 1000 comments by the end of the week.

Add to the above list if you can, thank you.

Resources For Understanding The War Beyond The Bulletins

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map, who is an independent youtuber with a mostly neutral viewpoint.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have good analysis (though also a couple bad takes here and there)

Understanding War and the Saker: neo-conservative sources but their reporting of the war (so far) seems to line up with reality better than most liberal sources.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict and, unlike most western analysts, has some degree of understanding on how war works. He is a reactionary, however.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent journalist reporting in the Ukrainian warzones.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

In :france-cool: we have Felix Faure I guess; widely known for and acknowledged to have died in the middle (or, one imagines, the very end) of a blowjob by his mistress, in the presidential palace.

The puns from the newspapers and artists from back then are impossible to translate in English but a few are somewhat funny.

Edit: you know, reading more about him, it's not all goofy it seems:

He granted amnesty to the anarchist movements in 1895, enabling the return from exile in England of several famous anarchists, such as Émile Pouget.

In 1898, the French automobile industry was the largest in the world. President Faure was not impressed. Invited to address industry leaders at what, in retrospect, is recorded as the first Paris Motor Show, Faure told his audience, "Your cars are very ugly and they smell very bad"

Fun fact! WHH actually probably died of typhoid fever as a result of drinking contaminated water at the White House. He had indigestion problems most of his life and they believe that made him more susceptible to infection.

I guess in :ukkk: we literally just had our version of that lmao (we had a few other under 100 day prime ministers but few managed to be quite as embarrassing and do so much damage in a limited time as Truss)

We had Lars Løkke Rasmussen, former prime minister for the liberal party and now likely kingmaker after the election on Saturday with his new moderate party. He is an evil reactionary asshole but he is also really funny.

His big problem is that he is very bad at personal finances and consequently he needs to get somebody to pay for his stuff.

He is thoroughly corrupt but in a ridiculously petty way, like filing receipts for a pack of cigarettes or some pints of beer to have the government refund it. Or trying to get the government to pay for a hotel room he rented using a fake name. When his party decided to buy him some tailored suits so he wouldn't look too shabby on TV he managed to get them to pay for his underwear as well.

Public coffers are not the only ones paying for his lifestyle. A local oligarch who owned a bunch of trawlers paid for Rasmussen's stay in a nice but modest vacation home and suddenly legislation benefiting trawler-owning oligarchs was passed.

He was also funny as a representative abroad. Once he went to an EU summit and only spoke once, that was to ask for a smoko. Another time he was presiding over a failed climate conference in Copenhagen and hit the table with his gavel exclaiming to the gathered heads of state "I am banging the table!"

I guess that would be Vidkun Quisling? A pathetic fascist reviled by all, deposed by his allies and whose surname became synonymous with traitor only 10 days after his coup.

Shot 8 times in a fortress for his crimes, refused to commit suicide as he said he would be resolved like Saint Olav if he stood by his actions, lol lmao. :pit:
